Resetting quizzes/Variables/Triggers/Course Completion

Jan 14, 2019

I am new to Storyline and I've developed a refresher training course based on the E-learning Bros "Gearing for Safety" template.  The course has 4 modules; in each module there is content and a quiz.  The user has the option to take the quiz or review the content.  If they choose to take the quiz, the must pass with a 100 %.  If they miss a question they are immediately directed to the content. Then they can take the quiz again after they've reviewed the content (still must pass with 100%). My first question is how to reset the quiz.

Next, I've added an "In progress" state when user clicks a module; once the module is successfully completed (pass quiz with 100%), the state should change to visited and add to results slide completion variable +1.  This is the same process for each module. When all 4 have been completed, the results variable should =4 and a "finish course" button appears on the overview scene, they click that button to get credit and exit the course.

Need help with changing states from in progress to complete and managing the completion variable.

Please help!

Hi A.j.,

Happy to help!  Are you able to share your Story file?

Regarding your first question, if your learners don't pass a quiz, when they return to your previous content, does this trigger Reset Results for your results slide?  You could add this trigger to the same button they click to jump back to review content again.

Another thing to check would be to have a look at your slide properties for those quiz slides (the gear icon in the bottom right corner in Storyline 3).  Are the slides set to reset to initial state when revisited?

Just a couple of thoughts- I hope this helps, and if you'd like to share what you've created, I can take a look to see what I could recommend specifically!   This would also help me to get a better idea of what you're trying to accomplish with your second question, too.

Great, that sounds good!  I know many of us are familiar with working with NDAs and privacy when sharing these types of samples.

I can see what you're going for with the variable idea- your approach makes sense!  It sounds very similar to something I did recently for a project.  Digging in and seeing your example might help me (or others) to figure out what might not be working for you.

Hi,
Sorry I am just getting back to uploading my sample file.  I tried to trim it down as the course is pretty large and now I get an error when I go to submit the a quiz saying "Invalid Answer - you must answer the question".  This error is popping up on the results slide.  I've attached the file.
