System Screenshots Design

Aug 04, 2016

Hi everyone,

I am currently working on an eLearning that showcases enhancements being made to a (very ugly) internal system. The course will need to include a lot of screenshots and callouts but very little user actions (more of a 'Hey look at these new fields!'). I'm struggling with a slide design I like that serves as a 'background' to the screenshots, but can also stand on its own for those slides that have text/images and not (ugly) screenshots. Anyone with systems training experience have any templates you have used in the past that you like, or any other ideas?

Thanks!

HI Melissa, I produce these things from time to time. I usually prefer the screen shot to dominate the page and keep the background clean and in a plain colour. The I use buttons/slider to reveal one piece of information at a time to keep it looking clean.

Attached is a quick example of a layout i might use. The numbered icons at the bottom would be clickable and reveal a new layer for that feature changing the text in the box on the left and the screen shot. On the base layer I would just have instructions in that text box telling the user to click the numbered icons.

Also  you may find Tom Kuhlmann's  blog post interesting, about creating simple free gifs using Screen2Gifs for software training.
