System simulations from iPad

Sep 07, 2012

We are trying to create system simulations for an app on the iPad. We're using Reflection to mirror the iPad app on a Windows device and then trying to record the simulation using Storyline. Unfortunately, we only seem to be able to record the initial screen, not the system activity. Any suggestions? Has anyone developed simulations from an iPad? If so, what tool(s) did you use?

I would be interested in this as well. Haven't done this, but we now have several iPad carts that are being checked out to classrooms, so I see the need to develop app simulations as well.

I know you can screen share through the Apple TV, which you can take the HDMI output to a recording device, but I bet there is a better solution.

Hope to hear anyone's current expereinces.

Quick questions, looking at Reflection. Are you doing a screen recording of the Reflection player on the Mac, or does Reflection record the screen itself?

We are using Reflection to mirror the iPad app on a Windows machine. We can see all of the activity on the Windows machine, but we cannot record it using Storyline. We haven't tried to use Reflection for recording yet.

Hi Kochelle! Did you record as a movie or as step-by-step? We were able to use a combination of Reflection and Storyline today to record a "show me" simulation, but haven't been able to record a "let me try" with annotations. It may be that recording the application rather than the desktop is the key. I'll try that. Thanks! Aleta
