Pretty new to Storyline and working my way through my first course. I have what I'd guess is pretty standard. Click on the objects to learn more and then, when they click Next to return to that location, I want the object to be greyed out. Then, when they click through all five objects, they can click Next to proceed.
I don't see where a state change can be controlled from the user clicking Next on a different slide to get back to the main slide. Are there any other options?
I think the solution here will be variables. I think in this case you'll want to use True/False variables. If you haven't used them before, take a look at this tutorial that will walk you through what to do: How to Use Variables to Change States.
Basically, you use them like a switch. When it's turned on, you can tell other things (like states) to behave in a certain way).
Let me know how you go and if you need more detail.
Hi, Jason. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. I got this to work properly with one of five options. I'm trying to reproduce this with the other four but am running into some issues with setting up all the triggers. Some objects or states don't appear in the list. I saved the project and closed out and came back in but still the same issue. I've double checked and all the states are there and obviously all the objects are on the slide. Do you have any suggestions? Also, please let me know if there's a better place to post this question.
I'm embarrassed. I figured it out. Good lesson in the importance of naming objects properly in the timeline. Two weeks using Storyline and I'm having a ball, but this being new is no fun!
Thanks so much. The variables are all working great. Much appreciated!
So glad to hear you figured it out, Cheryl. I'll often find just speaking it out loud (or typing it) to someone else helps me figure out an issue. Glad I could help :)

Can you share your .story file here, so that we can have a closer look?
