Closed Caption Button Not Appearing
Hi there!
I have a closed caption SRT file attached to a 60-minute MP4 in my Storyline course, and have closed captions checked in the player. In the player preview, the closed caption button shows up.
However, when I preview the file the closed caption button doesn't appear. It doesn't appear when I launch the course in our LMS either.
Thank you for any help!

Hi, Deborah.
Thank you for opening a support case with our engineers!
I see you worked with Georvy and Ian, who identified and logged this issue as a bug that happens in Preview mode, where it doesn't show the Player Closed Caption button if you exceeded 44379 characters in your CC file, but it works when the file is published.
We'll reach out through the case as soon as we have news to share!

Hi, Tom.
Thank you for reaching out!
As we've mentioned in this discussion, we have a possible bug logged related to the number of characters in the caption file.
If you can share your .story file through a support case, we're happy to check if what you're experiencing is connected to the bug report or if there's something else going on in your project.

Hi, everyone.
I just wanted to share that we are no longer seeing the bug reported where the closed caption button is not visible when you view the course for the first time on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge using the latest build of Storyline (3.61.27106.0).
If you're using the latest version and you're still experiencing this issue, please reach out to our support team through a case.

To add to this, my accessibility director showed me that a program I published as a SCORM object in Canvas LMS shows the CC button in the player controls on Chrome but not on MS Edge. I assume this has something to do with Edge but if there is more to this problem than that, I would appreciate the feedback.
Hi Steve,
Have you tried testing your course in SCORM Cloud to see if the issue is specific to your LMS, or if it has something to do with Microsoft Edge? I'm very curious to know if your course will work as expected in SCORM Cloud, regardless of which browser is used to view it.
If you are able to replicate the behavior in SCORM Cloud, open a case with our support team here so we can take a closer look at what's happening!

The problem was successfully reproduced in SCORM Cloud, so I will post a ticket.
Hi Aditya,
Thanks for reaching out!
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue and we'll be happy to help. I see that my teammate, Joe, shared some troubleshooting steps with you in another thread. We can continue the conversation there!

The last comment here seems to be 2 years old. Can you update with whether the above mentioned bugs have been resolved? I seem to be having the same issue now with an mp4 from Vyond and the associated .srt (manually imported) not producing a CC button on the player (in preview mode; I haven't published yet). The audio in the rest of my file has caption that display beautifully. Hoping this accessibility feature hasn't been forgotten about.
Hi Kyle,
Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. Reviewing the discussions in this thread, I can confirm that we are still monitoring an open issue where the Player closed caption button doesn’t show in preview mode if you exceed 44379 characters in your CC file. I'll be glad to check if you are affected by this issue or something else. Please share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case for testing. We'll delete it when we're done!
