Hi Ashley,
I have the "Cannot Save - Low on Memory Issue" in SL 2. The project is currently one (Very Large) video from which I was going to create separate View and Try Scenes. I have never saved the Story, so I don't want to shut down and lose everything. Is there a way to save?
Thanks again,
Jim Momsen, CPT
Hi Jim,
Are you using the latest update of Storyline 2, update 4? I know that fixed a lot of issues that users had with saving files - but you may also want to look into if your temp directory is full. Here's how to empty it:
- Open Windows Explorer, type %temp% in the address field, and press Enter.
- When your temp directory opens, press Ctrl+A to select all the temp files, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
- A few temp files may currently be in use that can't be deleted. When prompted, you can skip those.
- You can now save your project file.
Please also find the download for update 4 here if you don't already have it.

Hi Ashley,
Looks like I'm at Update 3.
Due to the prior Admistrator issue that you helped with (thanks again), I'm logged in to Storyline under her ID and cannot delete Temp files in her user space. She just left for the day. I'll give it a try when we can switch users and she can log in under her ID to clear out the temp files in her space.
Worst case is that I'll need to exit Storyline and re-record the scenario (after installing Update 4, of course).
Regards and thanks again,
Jim Momsen, CPT
Sounds good Jim - and glad it should be a hopefully simple solution.

Hi Ashley,
Confirming that I installed Update 4 and it fixed the "out of memory" error.
Thanks again, Jim
Thanks Jim - so glad to hear it!

This is happening to me now! My storyline 2 is up to date (update 5), I am saving to a local drive, my IT Department has re-installed SL2 and the issue still persists! Please help!
Hi Jennifer,
I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're having and thanks for letting us know the troubleshooting steps you've already gone through. I'm wondering if your IT Team went through all the steps here? It's more involved than a normal repair but it solves a lot of standard issues such as this.

My IT Department tried the steps listed in that link, it works up to a certain point. If the file uses more memory than 600K under the Processes Tab in the Windows Task Manager I get the same error.

You probably have the 32-bit version of Windows installed on your computer. Windows 32-bit can only address 640K of memory.
Windows 64-bit allows extended addressing.

Hi Jennifer (and Jim),
First, I wanted to share that responding via email includes your signature here and you're welcome to edit the post to remove that information if you wish.
In regards to the behavior, as Jim mentioned, Storyline can operate on any of the following systems: Windows Vista SP2 or later (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit), or Windows 8 (32-bit or 64-bit), but it's worth noting, Storyline itself is only a 32-bit program.
If you're still having difficulty, you're also welcome to connect with our Support engineers who could take a look at anything else that may be interfering with the set up of Storyline.

Yeah this really bites. First time I've experienced the low memory issues but this is probably the largest project I've worked on (.story project file is about 350MB total in size). Getting the low memory errors, closed out applications and processes that are not needed, deleted all the temp files as Ashley suggested. Still no luck. Guess I'll have to close out Storyline and lose some work. Using Windows 7 32bit so the nifty RAM patch won't help. Running the latest Storyline 2 version as well. Unhappy.
