Q&A: Nova — AI, & Credits
With the new Articulate 360, there’s even more you can do with AI, including new capabilities powered by Nova, your AI agent for advanced training creation.
Nova works across Articulate 360 and Frontline to take on more complex, production-heavy workflows. Nova-powered actions use credits, while core AI capabilities, like image generation, instant convert, AI audio, and more, are included with every Articulate 360 seat and don’t use credits.

How much are the credits? I shouldn't have to talk to sales to get this number.

Unfortunately not. It explains the credit-cost (like, how much each thing you do costs in credits) but not how much it costs to replenish credits. Thanks, though :)
Hi JohnRizzo! Thanks for following up. Credits have the same cost for both Articulate 360 AI and Frontline - $500 for 100,000 credits shown in the Frontline column of the pricing page (Articulate 360 AI can start with as low as 50,000 credits). I acknowledge this is not super clear and we'll work on making updates. Hot tip: if you click the "buy now" button under either product you can see detailed credit costs, and in the case of Frontline there are plans that show what type of output you could generate with the credits.
That said, if you're going beyond general fact-finding and interested in getting a true sense of what this could look like on your account, we really do recommend starting a conversation with Sales. We’re still building out our self-service purchasing flows, so for now, connecting with Sales is the way to purchase additional credits. Our reps are the most knowledgeable people at Articulate about our pricing, packages, and in some cases discounts, and they can often help you find ways to make your contract more efficient overall since a conversation gives them more context about the scale and usage of credits. Every account tends to be a tiny bit different.
Either way, though, I hope that gives you some insight into the basic numbers! Let us know if you have any follow-up questions and we're happy to help, this is new territory for us and we're working on making sure the new credit system is as clear as possible, so comments like yours help us understand where we might be missing resources.

How many credits are included with the standard AI-subscription package? And how can Creators on my team view the credit balance without having to reach out to the Account Admin? Creators should be able to view the credit balance easily, so they can prioritize usage.

Unfortunately that link doesn't include the specific information that I'm asking about. Thank you, though!
Hi Mason_Osepchuk,
Thanks for reaching out! At launch, Articulate 360 AI subscriptions receive a one-time credit gift of 20,000 credits per seat, up to 100,000 credits per subscription. After you use those credits, you can purchase additional credits separately.
Right now, the credit balance and usage details are available to admins rather than individual creators. I can see how having visibility into the remaining balance would help creators' credits, and will share this with our Product team. Thanks for sharing that use case with us!

Thank you, LucianaPiazza. That's helpful. To confirm, (outside of the one-time gift), there are zero credits included with the Articulate 360 AI subscription, and all credits must be purchased separately (in addition to the annual fee). Are you able to share the price for purchasing credits?

Does the AI Insert Audio text to speech and Insert Image features use credits? If so, how many credits are used?
Great question and no, AI Audio and AI Images don't require any credits. They work the same as before.
The following features currently require credits:
- AI Avatars — generating avatar video
- Translation — multi-format/multi-language translation
- Frontline Kit generation (separate from Articulate 360 AI)

And the credits are used only in development, or are they also used as someone is actually using the learning where something was built in the training that uses the credits? I'm a little fuzzy on that. For example, if I develop an avatar, I know it will use credits to develop, but as the avatar plays in a Rise training, will it still use credits?
I'm interpreting this as when any of these are developed and working correctly:
- AI Avatars — generating avatar video
- Translation — multi-format/multi-language translation
- Frontline Kit generation (separate from Articulate 360 AI)

So if I understand correctly, translations using Localization now use these Nova credits, and no longer the localization credits that we bought with our subscription for instance?
Great question, avelineb! If you have a paid, course-based Localization plan, translating Rise 360 or Storyline 360 courses will continue to use your existing legacy Localization credits.
If you want to translate a new format, like Guides, you will consume Nova credits, even if you have a paid, course-based Localization plan. Legacy credits don't apply to new formats.
I hope that helps clarify the difference!

Hi Luciana, the new Articulate 360 looks awesome, but some of our customers don't allow use of AI. Will it be possible to use the new 360 with AI features disabled?
Hi wehling_fred! Glad you think so! You can use Articulate 360 AI with Articulate AI disabled. However, the new Articulate 360 AI experience is tied to AI being enabled for your subscription. If AI is disabled, users will continue to use the previous experience.
Account owners and primary admins can disable Articulate AI for the entire subscription or selected user groups. If your organization requires AI features to be removed completely, that can also be requested at the subscription level.
AI features can’t be disabled individually, so access is all or nothing.

If we do not yet see the new interface, is it because our admin has to do something to approve it?

Hi, I am trying to understand the likely cost of translation with the new credits model. Is there any rule of thumb that I can use - credits per word or other - I have a 2,000 word module and I need to understand for budgeting what that will cost.
- RH-619e966b-010Community Member
"2 credits per source character per target language"
https://www.articulatesupport.com/article/credits#rates
- DeNoCommunity Member
thanks for that - Can I assume that 'source character' includes spaces as well?
- AngeliqueHBCommunity Member
Our organisation does not have the new Articulate interface yet and I am curious about translation cost. I know it is 2 credits per character but how can we tell how many characters our course is in the old interface? I spent a lot of time pricing out what our courses would cost for multi-language translations this year to present a business case to management for translation. Now it seems like none of those numbers will be accurate. Is there a quick way in the old interface to determine how much a course would cost per language? Is there a word count or other easy feature so I can quickly redetermine what the costs would be for translation now?
- EmilyBarber-43cCommunity Member
Since translations will be charged based on characters, will there be a feature added to Rise where you can do a character count?
