PowerPoint Animation
Feb 17, 2012
We have access to a web site called presentermedia.com that has pre built animated powerpoint slide decks. Before we commit to using these services we tested a powerpoint slide set so we could see how it worked when published within an Articulate module. It did not work though. The prebuilt animation didn't run after it was published.
Has anyone had any experience with this before?

I would verify that they are supported animations - http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/?p=400
Are the animations created with powerpoint or are they something like animated gifs. If they are power point animations it's important that they are set to begin "After Previous" and not "On Click." Hope this helps.
Hi Aaron.
It looks like these are media files. The only supported way to incorporate video in Presenter is via Articulate -> Flash Movie. Presenter supports SWF, FLV or MP4 files so if the media is in one of these formats or can be converted into one of these formats, then you may be able to use those files.
Thanks for the feedback. These are actually hard coded I believe into the PowerPoint themselves. These aren't your typical default style animations used in PowerPoint. So I don't think these will run when published in Articulate.
So just a confirmation from my side about this topic (since I also tried inserting clickable objects. The only way to use PPT built in animations is to time it, not click it?
Example: you click on box 1, and box 2 appears?
If I want this type of interaction, and find that engage limits me too much, I should use flash?
Cheers!
Hey Marc, welcome to Heroes!
Sorry if I'm not totally understanding what you're hoping to do, but If you're experiencing issues with your animations, a good place to start would be to refer to this blog entry.
And while Presenter supports the vast majority of PowerPoint animations, it does not support them all. For a list of supported animations, check out this article. Hope that's helpful!
Hi again, Marc. Just wanted to add that among the non-supported effects are animations using a trigger "Start effect on click of...", if that's what you were asking about. Hope that helps
Hi Peter,
I am having problems with the darken animation, can you clarify...
The blog you reference in your 8/8 entry suggests using the 'on click' setting and Joe Deegan's post on 2/17 suggests not using 'on click', but rather 'after previous'. Can you clarify?
P.S. I referenced the list of suported animations - thanks. I am using ppt 2010
Oh this is disappointing ... I was just trying to use an on click animation in my current course and came here to find out why it wasn't working ... sounds like that's unsupported.
I hope on click animations are supported in the next version!
Tana
On Click Animations work in Articulate Presenter. They are recommended for syncing your audio. It really depends on which animation you are using. On Click, After previous, and with previous-all work though.
Hmmm I wonder why the bounce enter animation doesn't work for me then using on click ... it's listed as a supported animation.
Hi Marc!
While Presenter does have some animation limitations, there's no need to jump to flash to do simple response to a user's click.
Although you can't set a powerpoint trigger to animate on click, you can use the Animations panel to set your animation to "on click". I believe it's the default.
Another workaround is to put an 99% transparent text box on the item you want the user to click on, and hyperlink to another slide where the animation starts with the slide.
If you tinker with the settings, there's usually a way to get to the effect that you want!
