Accessibility in Rise
Dec 01, 2016
Hi,
As mentioned on the website under FAQ for Rise "Are Rise courses compliant with accessibility guidelines?
Rise employs many modern web standards for accessibility, and additional accessibility improvements are in development."
Could you please specify in detail which of these are supported in current version:
WCAG AA, WAI-ARIA Labels, Section 508, DDA, Equality Act and Screen Reader Supports.
Thanks
Mayuresh

As an industry leader, I would have expected accessibility to be a forethought and not an afterthought. I like the tool, BUT I can't add something to a course in hopes it will be complaint one day.
Jumping on here to keep up to date. I'll echo the concerns of everyone here about meeting WCAG 2.1 guidelines for all our online content (most of our courses have been made in Rise). The end of 2020 seems to be a long way off, especially as in the UK we are expected to meet those guidelines by September 2020.
Quick question. As Storyline 360 is WCAG 2.1 compliant, do Storyline activities inserted into Rise remain WCAG 2.1 compliant?
Thanks.
Great question, Glenn!
I don't have details on Storyline Blocks and WCAG 2.1 compliance just yet, but we'll let you know when we have more information!
This part of our screen reader problem was solved as we found the way to change the html language into Finnish / Swedish: Translate label set. We had missed that step and only translated the labels.

Hi,
It's been 3 years what's the latest on accessibility and screen reader updates for Rise, please?
Have the items listed been delivered?
Many thanks
Sarah
Thanks for asking, Sarah!
While we haven't yet delivered the three enhancements you listed, we're still on track to get Rise 360 output WCAG 2.1 compliant by the end of 2020.
To help us get it right, we’ve hired Deque, a leader in digital accessibility, to perform a 3rd party audit for Rise 360 so we have an accurate and comprehensive list of items to tackle. We’ve also dedicated developers to own accessibility on Rise 360 long term.
As we have more details and updates, we will share them with you!
Hi Alyssa,
Any updates on Glenn's question? Can we import pieces of Storyline into Rise and still be compliant?
Thanks,
Rania
Thanks for asking, Rania. I still don't have details on Storyline Blocks and WCAG 2.1 compliance just yet. We'll update you when we know more!
Hi, has anything changed for RISE and 508 compliance in the last 3 years. I see this thread and am wondering if RISE is 508 compliant?
Hi Kathleen!
Rise 360 isn't 508 compliant yet, but we're working on it! So far, we’ve increased the contrast for built-in course features, added alt text for images, and added keyboard-accessible navigation. And we’re currently working on full screen reader support.
Thank you.

If we were to host our Rise course on our web server prior to your stated compliance timeline (end of 2020), does Rise allow our own web designer to modify the code to meet the accessibility requirements?
Hello, Lihui. We can only support the output as is, but you can definitely modify it to meet your needs.
I would have to agree with this line of discussion. Course accessibility is paramount. I implore articulate to address this and lead. As a user, I don't want to have to find other ways to take the content and make it accessible or duplicate in another tool.
Hi, folks!
While Rise 360 isn't WCAG 2.1 compliant yet, we're working hard to reach that goal.
We put together a journal where you can find all the details on the features we’ve enhanced in Rise 360 as we work towards WCAG 2.1 compliance. And we’ll keep this journal updated as we continue our accessibility journey.

Take your time. This only affects the most marginalized students in our schools. Oy.
Are you still on track for being WCAG 2.1 compliant by the end of 2020?

Need to know this as well. A few months ago it was stated that things were still on track, but year end is approaching quick and if things aren't going to be ready by then everyone is going to need plenty of lead time, since we've all been counting on it been ready.
The last update in the Accessibility Journal that Alyssa linked to above was from August 14, so I'm concerned about the lack of recent developments.
Hi Alyssa! Any updates on this yet? Thanks so much for keeping us all informed! (Asking here as there are not recent updates in the journal).
Happy Thanksgiving!
Ash
Hello everyone! I’m happy to share our Rise 360 Accessibility Collection, which includes the VPAT to describe how Rise 360 conforms to WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria.
We also updated our roadmap to include Rise 360 features we’re continuing to develop to better support WCAG.
Let me know your questions and experiences building accessible courses for all!
Thanks for the update, Alyssa. It's been a long time coming, but I'm excited to test it out and see how Rise performs.
