Requiring users to answer quiz/knowledge checks in Rise

How do I require users to complete quiz questions/knowledge checks before advancing to the next lesson? I've got my Navigation Mode set to "Restricted", but learners can advance through lessons without even answering the quizzes or knowledge checks - let alone getting the answers correct. I know it's possible, because I've seen it work in some of the templates/ What am I missing?
