Rise Quiz Settings

Hello Ashley,

Wondering if your team have done any further development on expanding the quizzing capability within RISE.  Relating to the query from Fonterra.  RISE is doing what I want, and that is preventing learners from progressing further when they fail their 3 attempts. However, as you know the course comes to a grinding halt. I would prefer a message to the learner to confirm the outcome and have them STOP THERE but go back and review the learning.  Then re-attempt or a message suggesting they reach out to one of their trainers etc.  The alternative as suggested by yourself is to 'uncheck' the 'require passing score to continue', so they still get through. When export and imported into the LMS, will the results show to the trainer via gradebook the learner completed the course but the results was say 80% out of 100%.  This result is probably determined when you import the scorm and set conditions for completion and passing etc.

Thanks for your insight.  P.S.  I enjoy designing in RISE, it speeds up my workflow but it does lack the ability to make settings on the user's performance as stated above.

Speaking of Rise Quiz settings, I was wondering if there were any plans to develop an option for quiz questions to indicate to the user if the answer is correct/incorrect without giving the user the correct answer. That would be extremely helpful- I am getting that request more and more from students. Thanks!

We have decided on a workaround. Just to extract the questions and use a simple quiz in the LMS. I am started to realise the purpose of RISE the more I use it. It's the best at making my workflow quick and efficient, everyone I show RISE to is impressed and wants it. So if its formative and acquiring theory and learning its perfect. However if I try to make it work like Storyline or any quiz function in the LMS, it doesn't measure up. But maybe its not supposed to be a replacement but an enhancement.

Glad you were able to find a suitable workaround! You're right - Rise isn't intended to be a replacement for Storyline, but a different tool for different types of projects. :) Here are some articles that will help you decide which tool to use when:

Tell me more about how you want Rise 360 quizzes to be more like quizzes in Storyline 360. With a little more detail on what you're after, I can try and point you in the right direction!

I am runing into the same issue so also request this enhancement. I would like to give the learner 2 (or 3 in one client's case) tries to answer a test item. They get feedback whether it is correct or inicorrect and try again as needed. The correct answer is revealed only after the set amount of tries are completed. If this isn't going to change soon, is there another option? For example should we just create the quiz in Storyline and import it into Rise? Thanks!

Thanks for letting us know how we can improve Rise 360 quizzes for your team. To help you plan ahead, we don't have immediate plans to change the way feedback is given. I'll keep you posted if that changes.

Creating the quiz in Storyline 360 is a good idea! Then, you can embed it in your lesson using a Storyline Block.

You can track the quiz score by choosing the quiz tracking option when you publish from Storyline to Review 360, and then choosing to track the Rise course by the Storyline block.

In that scenario, the quiz score will be sent to the LMS, but question-level details aren't sent to the LMS for Storyline blocks.

Either one would be good! I can prevent lesson progression with a quiz block, was just wondering if it could be done on a question level. Ideally would like to use RISE instead of Storyline. 

There is no functionality in Rise that will prevent a learner from progressing to the next question unless they get the current question correct. 

Why is this important to you?

In a Rise quiz, a student answers one question, and regardless of the answer, they can progress to the next question.

When you use Knowledge Checks, you can use a CONTINUE divider block between each knowledge check question to ensure that they answer each question before moving on to the next one.

Yeah that's ok, just wondering if there might be a way. It's what a client would like the learner to do. Obviously I can make 4-5 quizzes back to back, with one question each.... but that user experience is not ideal. I will just do it in Storyline. I tried the knowledge check with the continue button, but the ability of the continue button is dependant on whether the block above has been "completed"... i.e visited. Would have been perfect though if the continue block was activated based on whether the knowledge check was correct! :)

I was wondering if the quiz limitations are going to be or have been addressed as well. I am building a training that has multiple modules with a quiz after each. I am trying to make it so that if they pass the quiz they skip a retraining section but if they fail then they must take the retraining without another quiz. This would likely be possible with an if/else or if/then style statement added into the back end logic. I am not sure if this is possible, but the enhancement would tremendously improve the capability and our user experience for not having to use both Storyline 360 and Rise.

Hi Chad! How are you tracking this Rise 360 course - by percent viewed, or by quiz score? Also, how many quizzes does this course have?

The training is going to have 4 total modules with a quiz after each module. Each quiz will be tracked based on percentage scored of each that will require an 80% score to move on.

You can require a passing score to continue in the quiz settings, shown below:

Rise 360 will only send one quiz score to your LMS, so there won't be a way for you to gather data on how a learner scored on all four quizzes. Could you instead track only the final quiz in your LMS?

Will this process only send the first score to the LMS or will it send the passing score to the LMS? What we are trying to do is ensure that if the user fails the module quiz then they must take a retraining prior to moving onto the next module, the retrain however would not have a quiz in order to move on. A message might also work if the score is a passing/failing score much like with the check on learning feedback to the user.

Good question, Chad! When you publish the course for LMS, you choose which quiz you want to track for completion in the LMS.

Rise 360 is very linear in nature, so it might be a challenge to branch the learner from a failed quiz to a retraining lesson. While this isn't exactly what you're looking for, here's an example where someone hid the sidebar menu and created branching inside their Rise 360 course. Hopefully this can spark some ideas for you!
