Articulate course not tracking complete

Oct 16, 2012

We have recently uploaded Articulate courses into our clients LMS, Learnsomething. The course and quizzes were developed in Articulate Studio 9. The courses are not tracking complete in the Learnsomething environment. I have never hit this snag. One note, the final exam is a self assessment and there is no pass/fail. in fact, no data other then complete/incomplete passes to the LMS. Any ideas what is going on?

Years ago I ran into a quirk where if I viewed the Tracking tab in the Reporting and Tracking popup window (option to select quiz score or number of slides viewed) and just hit Cancel, the course would not mark as complete. I had to click OK for the course to mark as complete.

If the navigation is set so the user must view every screen, you can set the pass condition to track number of slides viewed.

Good morning Deb!

What sort of SCORM export are you using to get the courses on to your LMS? I would take a look at the compatibility between Learnsomething and SCORM versioning. Could you let me know which Learnsomething package you're using? I'm curious to find out what the site might have to say regarding this. Similarly, there may be an issue with the host's server and firewall communications - but I'd suggest to first start by exporting to the AICC package, or SCORM 2004, and finding out if it is the same sort of snafu.

Have you noticed this sort of issue occurring with various question types? For example, a quiz with strictly multiple-choice versus open-ended answers? Some LMS hosts won't allow communication between the SCORM content and its reporting module - it may require an API (another application of sorts) to be created to "understand" this data.

Hi Dan,

This is the first time I have seen this problem. We are told the LMS is 1.2 SCORM compliant.

The courses break out into 7 modules. Three modules track complete, 4 track incomplete when the learner does indeed complete the course. The LMS provider ran two courses through debug. The results of Module 1 (which tested COMPLETE) is attached. I will attach the result from module 2 to the next post. Module 2 does not track complete.

Thank you for any insight you might be able to provide. Deb

Good Afternoon, Deb.

For most any LMS-related issue, this blog post is the place to begin.  You also want to be certain that you are packaging your published content properly for your LMS.  Please note that your LMS may dicate how you configure the "Report status to LMS as" setting.

If you wind up empty-handed after reviewing the links above, I would next recommend comparing the performance of your content at SCORM Cloud.  If you cannot reproduce the problem there, this is likely an LMS-specific issue, and you will want to generate debug logs and supply them to your LMS Provider for additional troubleshooting.

Please let us know if you need anything else.  Thanks!
