Embedded quizzes freeze at 9:42 into the quiz

Dec 07, 2014

Hello,

I've been stuggling with Articulate 13 properly recording SCORM scores and resume state in the past, but was able to fix this by moving from SCORM 1.2 to SCORM 2004 Ed. 3, and setting these variables in my php.ini:

max_execution_time = 90
max_input_time = 90
max_input_vars = 2000
memory_limit = 512M

SCORM 1.2 was too limited to keep track of so many questions (100+), and the default PHP configuration was not set up to process enough input. I barely understand what this means, but this is what my LMS was able to communicate.

However, I am having a persistent problem that might be related. When taking a lengthy embedded quiz in Presenter '13, the quiz freezes at exactly 9:42 into the quiz. Every time. Every Presenter course with a long quiz. The quiz will freeze again exactly 10 minutes later. Each time the quiz freezes, the browser freezes and is unresponsive for 90 seconds (see above) I suspect the issue is with suspend data transfer again since I believe Presenter sends the data about every 10 minutes. Since the presentations seem to run ok in SCORM cloud, I have to guess the SCORM cloud has PHP or MySQL configured especially to better support the demands of a heavy Articulate Presenter course.

I think we have plenty of hardware resource on Hostgator with a 2-CPU, 2GB memory server.

My questions:

1. What can I do to eliminate these freezes?

2. Is this issue a SCORM problem since I learned that SCORM is not very efficient with voluminous tracking data transfer? If so, will moving to Tin Can resolve the freeze issue?

This is frustrating our customers beyond belief for the past year. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Leslie,

I know you don't support LMS issues, but nobody knows what Articulate is trying to do at suspend data transfer like Articulate themselves know. Help me out and let me know what might cause an Articulate presentation to freeze at the suspend data transfer points. Then I can better direct my LMS at what to look at instead of them guessing in the dark.

Dumping me off on the road is not they kind of insight I was looking for. Can you do better?

Good Morning, Allen.

If your content works properly at SCORM Cloud but not in your LMS, open a support case with your LMS Vendor and provide them with a debug log that can help isolate where and why the freezing begins.

By default, LMS debug mode is disabled in Articulate Studio '13 content, but you can enable it for troubleshooting purposes.  Here's how to do that.

Please let us know if you need anything else, and have a great day!
