Hyperlinking to Sharepoint Site Not Working - HELP!

Hello all,
I have a course where I have used the attachment function in Articulate and also added a straight text hyperlink within a ppt slide text to link to a word document that lives on an internal sharepoint site. The document opens when I am in preview mode.
When I publish the course, the word document tries to pop-up - I get the pop-up alert. I allow all pop-ups but the file still won't open. No error. No nothing. I can see that it tries to open but then closes right away. I have tried putting it on a web server and it doesn't work from there either.
Help!

hyperlinks can get changed by powerpoint, its often better to use a url shortening service, also linking to word files can be a problem using IE because of security

The link appears to be working fine - I can open the document from the preview. It is when it is published that I cannot open the document - it flashes up on the screen and then closes again quickly. So I am not sure it is the URL itself that's broken.
It is likely an issue with IE and word documents, its a known issue and the best workaround is to convert to a pdf

Making the document a .pdf fixed the problem. Thanks so much, Phil. I appreciate the help!
