Hyperlinks in Presenter

I am using PowerPoint 2010 and presenter 13 to make an interactive presentation that will be uploaded to the web for people to view at any time. I've tried adding hyperlinks but once I publish they don't work. The error message I get is that the hyperlink doesn't work because it is not supported by my browser. Since a lot of people will be viewing this on different computers, is there any way to do a hyperlink that will not cause this error message?
Thanks,

Hi Beth!
Hyperlinks may not work as expected when previewing. To test hyperlinks, publish your presentation and upload it to a web server or LMS. Otherwise, local security restrictions may prevent your hyperlinks from working properly.
Hi Beth, Does Presenter actually link to the content or embed it in the published file like SL360? I need to link out so we can secure the documents.
Thank you,
Hi Jan!
Hyperlinking to a file is not officially supported.
Are your documents on a secure website? I'd recommend hyperlinking to that location.
