Lost Audio and Player Template in Articulate 13

Apr 19, 2017

Hello,

I just lost all my audio in my course and the player template reverted back to the basic one.  In the past when I lost audio a old.ppta file would appear, but there is not one. I have checked Properties and the Hidden box is unchecked.

I had published to web the day before and that has the sound. I have published in the folder where my PowerPoint is stored, they do not have the same name and the published file is not one level above.

I have not renamed my file or moved it out of it's original folder. I'm not working on a network drive or USB. I have restarted my computer.

I also just noticed that my files do not have any extensions like ppta or such.

I have UPDATE 8: 1607.2021

What can I do next to reconnect the audio?

Thank you,

Jann

Oh no, Jann! I know it's a scary feeling when you suddenly lose the audio in your file. There are a few reasons why audio may go missing in a Presenter file, and it looks like you've already checked off a few of those, such as not renaming your file and working from your local drive.

Take a look at the other reasons listed there, and let me know if that helps you restore the audio and the template. If not, we'll keep digging!

Hi Alyssa,

You're right this isn't my first rodeo with losing audio, but it hasn't happened in a couple of years. So I knew the list of what to trouble shoot first. The only thing I had not done was download the March update. Some times updates have changed things and this project was about to go into final review and was working great so I didn't want to risk it. So I just installed the update and and chose to do the restart now.  Unfortunately, Articulate appears on the ribbon, but nothing opens  ... not Import Audio, Preview, Slide Properties ... nothing.

What do you suggest I try now?

Thank you,

Jann

Hello Alyssa,

I know it's been a while, but finally I got our IT department to run all the repair steps for Studio'13 for Windows 7.  I was there with them through each step. Unfortunately, I'm sorry to report that my audio is still missing and the player properties have reverted to the basic one.

It's looks like I'm facing the task of reconnecting the audio... rebuilding the template, etc. The branching is thankfully is still there.

The one thing I do notice is that there are not any .backup files for Presenter, Engage or Quizmaker for this course. Before I proceed with this rebuild can you find out if I should even be using this Presenter Project file.  Or do I need to totally start in another folder this entire course from scratch? If I copy slides over is there a chance that something is corrupt in this file?

Let me know what you think my next steps should be.

Thank you so much,

Jann

Oh no, Jann! I'm sorry to hear that. I can definitely understand you hesitating to proceed with the rebuild since it seems like the file could be corrupt. To make sure, I'd like our Support Engineers to take a closer look (01069524).
