I am using Moodle 2.0 and Articulate Presenter and Quiz Maker to produce SCORM 1.2 packages. When I look at the data from Moodle about a SCORM quiz, it's not in a format that is readily digestable.
For example, I was trying to review some quiz results and find out
what answers they got wrong, but it was like trying decipher Chinese!
I have attached a screen shot for a quick look.
Is there a tool or plug in available to help with this?
I can see the responses (see attached). I need something that make the raw data more readable and useful. To your knowledge, was there a tool in Moodle 1.9 that gave that kind of ability?
I know it's not really an Articualte issue, but any help would be appreciated!
I do get more data about tests if I go into the course and enter the scorm/aicc secton this gives me reports on each individual question by number and the answer they gave in text I just cannot collate it into one big file, I am sure there is a moodle module that does this e.g.
I wonder if you have your scorm to track by slides viewed instead of quiz, becuase I get the same data as you on coursese that are set for slides viewed, the one above is by quiz
I just realized that I didn't attach the file in the original post (now attached ).
The list you give above in the same data I have attached as a screen shot.
The screenshot is from a module of my course that has over 100 slides and a quiz at the end. I need to find a way to make that data a more user friendly read.
The SCO's are set to track by quiz result.
I don't know where that gets us, but at least I can see what you show is what I show.
I just checked out the export on my Moodle site. I can export each SCORM Quiz results which is good. I wonder if there is a way to have my course set up (in Articultate and/or Moodle) to track the amount of slides viewed along with the quiz results. I would like the ability to see how far along somebody is in the module if need be.
Brightcore looks real good, but they can p!ss off for that price!
I would also like the ability to view Survey questions (typed) in the proper format.
I don't know if I am asking too much here....but I don't think so!
Let me know what you think about Kineo. I have posted in the Moodle forums about my 'problems'.
As a relational database techie / data analyst I can give you a well educated guess of what the information means.
Basically it's telling you the name of the question. the number of actual correct responses, the amount of time on the quiz at that particular point in time, and the percentage right and it's doing this for each question. You could import that information into Excel and graph it but based on what Phil is saying what you want is not yet available.
Moodle is cool but it's not up to Blackboard standards yet.
By import I mean you can actually take a text file an import it into Excel. Another possible option is to use MS Access to load the data into a table and manipulate it into a report.
Thanks for the input. I would have thought that this type of situation would have been addressed already from Moodle. They are missing a trick here. If they are going to offer the use of SCORMs, they should at least make the data it harvests in a readily readable format that is able to be manipulated.
I have been toying around with this problem, too. The best solution I've found so far (that doesn't cost a fortune) is to do a bit-o-manual labor and have Excel pull out the results I need.
I made a template in Excel (attached) that allows me to look at only the students' answers on each slide (this could be easily customized to target the time spent viewing each slide or any other tracked item). Sheet 1 contains the "summary" report (just the answers). It is automatically filled out when the SCORM report is pasted into the first cell on subsequent sheets. To get it to paste nicely, I simply copy the full page of the SCORM report in Moodle and past it temporarily into a notepad file (to remove all formatting). I then immediately copy the unformatted text into the A1 of sheet 2.
It's clunky, but all my research shows that Moodle 2.0 isn't able to automate this process yet. If you've heard differently, I'd love to learn!
I am not understating your solution. I am not a serverside person and I am not sure what the files are and how I should use them. Could you please explain for me? I am trying to find a solution for reporting for my managers and as well justifying the use of Articulate.
I'm not sure what you mean by "automate the Quizmaker to Moodle 2 problem" - but the original post here from Dave asks for a better way to view the interactions data saved by Quizmaker.
as part of a GSOC project Moodle 2.2 has a new SCORM reporting back-end which includes a new Interactions report that displays the data in a much more readable manner and allows export to excel/csv etc.
This is relatively new so I don't think the user-level docs have been updated yet, but there's some good dev docs here with some screenshots (just ignore all the tech stuff there as this page is aimed at developers wanting to develop their own SCORM report plugins) http://docs.moodle.org/dev/SCORM_reporting_improvements

have you taken a look at the links I provided above? - Moodle provides a number of reports out of the box that allow you to export interactions data. It may be important to mention that Moodle only provides complete support for SCORM 1.2 packages and if you have exported your packages as SCORM 1.3 the built-in reports may not export all the data you are looking for.
I have written a few custom patches in the past that allow the reports in Moodle to export SCORM 1.3 interactions data but haven't tested/used them for a while.
Yes, I looked at the links you provided above, although the first one goes to the forum, which - I'm sure - is a mine of knowledge, but also requires a lot of time to dig out proper information ;-) and second: does the plug-in work with latest releases of the Moodle software? If yes, how to install the plug-in?
If I understand you correctly, there is a chance, that if I generate (in Storyline2) the survey in the SCORM 1.2 standard, it should be easier to obtain legible report, which can be exported for further proceeding in Excel format, right? In fact I don't need very complicated form of report directly out of Moodle. Just poll with questions and answers, plus some text with trainees opinions about the course.

one of the reasons for not upgrading for us is that scorm is not working correctly yet in 2.o
In the cmi suspend data you should be able to see the questions and responses, you also may get more data if you export to excell

Hi Dave
Looking at the moodle forums, it looks like in 2.0 you cam export scorm reports to excel.
Also kineo have a module http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/CONTRIB-1394 which may help.
I am going to have a look at the module this week it looks interesting

officially articulate only tracks either/or but looking at the suspend data, it reports everything so it should be possible
will let you know how i get on

Hello Diann,
Thanks for the input and file.
I am trying like heck to avoid the 'manual' method, but it may have to do until Moodle or a 3rd party come up with a solution.
I am looking at the Kineo plug in, but it looks like it does not work with Moodle 2.0.
The search continues!
Cheers,
Dave
Definite no go on Kineo for Moodle 2.0.....
They said 'maybe' by the end of the year. What a pain this is turning out to be.
I have to assume if I switched to Articulate Online, this type of headache would go away...
Cheers,
Dave

Hi,
I am new to the forum! Did anyone find a away to automate the Quizmaker to Moodle 2 problem?
Mark
Hi Mark,
Welcome to the Heroes forum! - FYI Moodle also has a good SCORM forum here:
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=1951

Hello,
I was redirected here from my original thread:

Hello Dan,
Thank you for your answer.
Yes, I looked at the links you provided above, although the first one goes to the forum, which - I'm sure - is a mine of knowledge, but also requires a lot of time to dig out proper information ;-) and second: does the plug-in work with latest releases of the Moodle software? The 2nd link shows screenshots of the reports built into Moodle 2.2 and higher versions when using SCORM 1.2 packages.
