Presenter 9 Course Sends GETPARM after EXITAU

Oct 04, 2012

Howdy,

We are having a problem with courses created with Presenter 9.  I'm not the content creater.  I work on the LMS side.

We are having issues with courses sending an EXITAU request to the LMS, but the learner can continue through the course.  Of course, since the course sent an EXITAU request, the LMS is no longer tracking the learner's path through the course.

In trying to figure just what is going on, I have set up Wireshark to monitor all traffic to and from our LMS.  Wireshark has found something strange.  The Presenter courses will occassionally send an EXITAU request followed a second later by a GETPARAM request.  Now, the EXITAU request is supposed to be the final communication between the course and the LMS.

I'd attached a file showing the data that Wireshark captured.  If you follow it (I only included Post requests), you will see an EXITAU followed by a GETPARAM request.  I'm not saying that this is a major issue, but I'm thinking that it shows that something strange is going on that may be contributing to our issue of learners continuing in a course after the course has sent an EXITAU request.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this issue?

Thanks,

Dana

Hey Dana,

Sorry for the delay in getting a response to you. I'm not at all familiar with Wireshark and was hoping someone who is might be able to jump in. But if you're experiencing issues with LMS content, this great article outlines common issues pertaining to viewing and tracking content in an LMS.

You'll also want to be sure to package your published content properly for your LMS.

Hi Peter,

No problem, Peter.  I just put a little comment in in order to keep the topic active.

The course works fine most of the time, but occasionally, there are issues.

Actually, the Wireshark file was just a way to show that the Articulate course does indeed send a GETPARAM request after it has sent the EXITAU request.  According to the AICC - CMI Guidelines for Interoperability, there should be no further communication from the course to the LMS after the EXITAU request has been sent.

We have people who have somehow managed to continue through an Articulate course after that course has sent an EXITAU request to the LMS.  That should not be possible and I think that perhaps the fact that the course is occassionally sending a GETPARAM request after the EXITAU request may point there being an issue.

Luckily, this behaviour is intermittent, but unfortunately that doesn't help in solving the issue.

I was just hoping that someone might have some insight into this behaviour.

Thanks,

Dana
