Sharing a Presentation
Jun 14, 2012
I am creating a narrated presentation to be emailed out to leadership in my organization. If they do not have Articulate Presenter, will they be able to view and listen to the powerpoint presentation? Or if send the powerpoint will the audio automatically begin once they click on the first slide (whether or not they have Articulate Presenter)?
This is my first time using this software, and I want to find out if what I am trying to do (email out the presentation) will work. Thanks!

Welcome to Heroes, Frank!
Are you interested in simply having your colleagues view the presentation, or will they need to edit it and make changes?
It sounds like you just want them to view it, and that you want to email them the course, so here's a good way to do that:
Publish your course for CD. You can them email them the course in a zipped package. When they receive it, they'll want to save it to their local drive, and then extract it. They can then launch the course by double-clicking the file called launch_presentation.exe
Another option, and really the best way to ensure that all of your files and interactivity will perform properly, would be to publish your presentation for web, upload it to your server, and simply email them the link to your course.
Hope that's helpful, and welcome again!
Thanks, that helps! However, after I published, I tried to email it to a colleague for review and when I clicked "email," the following message window popped up: "Error sending email: 429: ActiveX component can't create object."
Any idea what that is all about?
The way I always do it is to publish for web and then upload the whole "output" folder to my Dropbox Public folder. Once it is uploaded to Dropbox if you right-click the player.html file and select "copy public link" then send that to your bosses.
Of course, the only problem with this method is you need a Dropbox account!
Cheers,
Mike
Hi Frank,
That's likely a permissions issue you're running into. This article explains how to workaround it.
And the Dropbox idea is another popular route. Thanks for adding that, Mike!
Thanks! I just tried going through the steps outlined in the article you gave me. However, once I select zip folder and save, the zip folder doesn't seem to exist. Any ideas of what's going wrong? A glitch in my Presentation software? Or am I doing something wrong?
Hi Frank!
For zip creation to work properly, the full directory path of the publish location needs to be less than 256 characters in length, including the name of the zip file itself.
Hey thanks! It worked! However, I am thinking that the file is too large for my companty email because it freezes the email system when attempting to open. If try simply opening the presentation straight from the zip it doesn't open. It simplys "done" and the screen is blank.
Hi Frank,
Sounds like we're making progress Did you by any chance just open the zip file, rather than extract it first?
I didn't extract first. After viewing the tutorial and extracting the zip file, I realize that my outcome is different than the tutorial. In the tutorial the powerpoint presentation and the Presentation project both show up in the published zip file. For me, I have two folders - Data and Player - and the presentation shows up as Player.html.
I can play my presentation by clicking on Player.html, but of course it doesn't open up if I try to email it. I am publishing in web, but I also tried publishing in cd, and get the same results.
I should add that I am trying to email this presentation through Lotus Notes. Does that change anything?
Sorry for the difficulty, Frank. Mind submitting a case to our support team? You can include the url to this thread so they have all the details above, and they'll be happy to help you get things up-and-running quickly. Thanks!
A memberof the support team speant a lot of time helping me out, and from my end it appeared like the situation was finally resolved. However, my boss told me that she was not able to access my presentation from her email.
On Monday I will be meeting with her to try to trouble shoot from her email and see what exactly the problem from her end. Even so, she mentioned that she plans on having me create a series of presentations to be sent over time to various department managers in our organization.
My questions for now are:
1. Is Articulate Presenter compatible with Lotus Notes?
2. How might I be able to activate the "Email" function that shows up after publishing without the "Error" message displayed? In theory, shouldn't I be able to publish, then hit "email" and then be able to shoot the presentation out to multiple parties?
HI Frank!
Thanks for the update.
1) Because of varying security, not so much. But there may be a workaround for you. Check out this older thread for more detail.
2) The above workaround is really your best option to avoid security restrictions from both browsers and Lotus Notes. The many restrictions and complications inherit to emailing courses and results, is a big reason why the feature was not included in Storyline.
Let us know how the meeting goes on Monday, and we'll continue to do our best to assist you. Have a great weekend
