'Unable to access quiz/interaction'...but nothing has changed...

Jan 11, 2013

I've started having problems with accessing Engage/Quizmaker files from within a PPT.

When I click on Edit in Engage/Quizmaker, I get the message that it's unable to access the file and need locate it. I browse for the relevant file. Previously this would then reinsert the file, but now it just shows the same error message again and it goes round in circles so I can never link to it. Filenames/filepaths haven't changed.

If I want to make changes I have to edit the original Engage/Quizmaker file, then reinsert into the PPT. However I also have to do this even if I just want to republish a presentation without having made any changes - I still have to reinsert all the interactive screens.

Any ideas why the links are being lost or can't find the files?

Thanks.

Good morning Louise,

The first thing I would check is the location of the files. I know you mentioned that the location hasn't changed, but are these files local files? If you're working from a network drive, USB drive, or any other external source, try moving the content to your hard drive and see if that makes a difference.

Here's some additional information on working with local files that may explain why this happens:

If you are experiencing unexpected issues using Articulate software, here are some tips for managing your files which can help prevent issues.

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

.

If you've confirmed the files are local, can you tell me if you're able to open the interactions or quizzes outside of Presenter? If you have an Engage interaction, try opening Engage on its own and not from within the Presenter ribbon, same with the Quizmaker files. Do you receive errors if you open them this way?

Thanks!
