Updating and SCORM 1.2 results (Moodle)

Dec 07, 2011

Hi!

Here's my setup.  I use Articulate (obviously) and design courses that always have some sort of evaluation at the end and by that I mean they have a Final Exam.  I publish as a SCORM 1.2 and import the whole thing into Moodle 1.12+.  Reporting works great and all is well. Loving all of it!  Although, I can't wait to go to Moodle 2+ but that's not relevant to this post.

I'm just being proactive a little as I know in a somewhat close future, I will do a review and maybe add more questions and adjust some of the content, add a couple of slides, etc.

My questions are...

1. What happens to all the grades that were achieved with the previous SCORM package?  Do they get overwritten, the results?

2. Should I just overwrite the zip file in the course with my new SCORM 1.2 package?

I wonder and what to know if anyone else had that issue before? If so, what process are you using to insure the results of previous people that have completed the course is not loss with the "update" to the course.

Thanks!

Pierre

I presume you mean Moodle 1.9.12 - not 1.12!!!

The final Grade should stay the same, but if you have changed/removed an old scos from the package(eg the names/id's of SCO's changes in the imsmanifest.xml) - Moodle will delete the tracking data for all "removed" scos.

So - if you keep the structure of the package and don't change the names/ids of the existing SCO's then no data will be lost.

hope that helps/makes sense.

Hi, I had the same problem with SL 2 and moodle 2.7.

I only deleted "AMP option" from publication settings,  and upload the new scorm package over the previous (first deleting the old one, then uploading the second). I don't remember if I've changed Id's name (at that time I didn't know it could give me problems, and there aren't reasons to do that) but  all my user data has been deleted!

I'm doing some tests and infact I've had the same problem only when I changed the Id's name.

Can you confirm this? I'm very scared to reupload another scorm package (with the same Id) and cancel other data...

 Thanks!!

I have a query which is sort of in relation to this, I was wondering if anyone could please help.

I understand that updating SCORM packages in the right way means that the overall scores can be retained, and also that because the suspend data associated with the original SCORM will be lost the user will not be able to resume and will need to start again.

However, if a course navigation was locked down, but has since become unlocked because the user has completed the course, when they go back into the course which has since been updated, although their previous score will remain, will the navigation still be unlocked for them to navigate through the course?

A bit of supporting background - our clients become accredited through taking our courses. When considering re-accreditation in subsequent years, we need them go back into certain modules that have been updated with additional/new content in order to remain accredited, but we want them to be able to navigate to only the new pieces of information.

Also, on their second time around, if they get a score lower than their first attempt, will it now record the new, lower score or always keep the highest?

Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Hello All, I realize this is an old post but I am coming up against this now.  I am using Rise to create/export the SCORM.  The only change I made from one SCO to the next is turning on navigation restrictions and the "manifest identifier" changed.  Does this mean if I delete (there isn't a "replace" button) in Moodle all the users' completion records will be deleted?

All other LMS I've worked with have a "replace SCORM" button which makes this process easy!
