video in powerpoint

Apr 14, 2011

I would like to add a video clip into my PPT file without having to use engage.  I understand that I have to use a WMV file which I have.  When I import the clip to PPT and preview in PPT it works just fine.  When I publish using presenter it just gives me a static screen that wont play the video.  So my question is: is it possible to add video to my PPT and then publish my presentation using articulate presenter so that the video play when the learner reaches that particular slide?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi there Andy, and welcome! In order for the video to play in your Articulate-published output, you'll need to use an MP4, FLV, or SWF and insert it via the "Flash movie" option on the Articulate menu. This tutorial shows a walk-through of how to do it.

If you need a way to convert your WMV to a Presenter-supported format, you could use Articulate Video Encoder (which comes as a free tool with Articulate Studio) ... or another option that a lot of folks seem to like is a free tool called Format Factory.

I am having the same issue, but I have used .flv  and MP4 videos. They play in preview, but not on the server.

Make sure your server (web) has playback video support for flv and mp4 video. It is a simple thing to add for Windows IIS Web Server. And ensure your videos are coded with H.264 Codec support.

I'm attempting to run an engage swf from a ppt screen.  I have followed the steps for adding the flash movie and pulled the swf from the published engage interation.  When I preview or publish and view file the swf doesn't play.  I can see ti is there because I have the loading wheel spinning.  What can I do to get the engage swf to run?

Hi cynthia

to insert multiple you need to rename the engage.swf file before you insert for example, you want to insert 3 engage inteactions as swfs

before you insert, rename the engage swfs to:

engage1.swf

engage2.swf

engage3.swf

(we normally use the slide number of the slide)

then change the names of the respective folders to

fm_engage1_content

fm_engage2_content

fm_engage3_content

hope this helps

Jeanette,

I've converted my video to mp4 but in Articulate Video Encoder I could hear it but not see it.  There was an error msg that there was a problem with the code and help suggested I download Klite Codec Pack which I did and now I can see and hear the video, but when I publish it I lose the sound....but it looks good.  In Encoder I adjusted the volume to 100% but still can't hear it when published.  Help.......

Hi Heather,

Articulate does support MP4 files that were created using the H.264 codec.  You should be able to insert the MP4 file directly into Presenter, Engage, or Quizmaker without any issues.  For more information, see the link below:

If your MP4 file was not encoded with the H.264 codec, you may need to convert the file using a different program like Format Factory.
