Web server - 404 error messages
Jan 19, 2012
When running our created training modules, SWF files are downloaded from our WEB servers to the client's computer and we are observing response codes of 404 - Not Found for notessmallx.swf and notesbigx.swf. This occurs for each page/step and the requested swf files do not exist or have not been created by Articulate when converting from powerpoint. This seems like a configuration issue and ideally we would like to switch this feature off to obtain performance gains. The advice provided by the following article was followed but did not resolve the issue. http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/kb/?p=1500 The only work around is to put some text in the notes text pane below the powerpoint slide, which then creates the notessmall and notesbig swf files, however this is an added disk read and increases response times. Articulate Presenter version: 6.3.1103.112 Pro MS Office Powerpoint 2007 ver: (12.0.6654.5000) SP3 MSO (12.0.6607.1000) Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Hi Mark,
If you'd like our support engineers to take a closer look, please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:
Send to Articulate Presenter Package – Articulate Presenter ’09 Help
Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:
Articulate Support - Upload Your Files for Review
Please be sure to include a description of your issue, your version of PowerPoint, version of Windows and version of Presenter '09, which you can find in Help and Support -> About Articulate Presenter. Please also include the URL for this thread so I can follow up with you personally in the forums. Thanks!
Be certain the path to the SWFs is accuarate. You may need to locate and link the SWFs at the root level of the course in PowerPoint to avoid any folder naming/linking issues, then manually include them in the root level of the published package.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for both you replies.
Peter - I will send a zip file to your support engineers for investigation.
Jim - The issue is the notessmallx.swf and notesbigx.swf files are not created by Articulate unless there is some text in the notes pages. But each time the flash file is run from our LMS over the web it tries to find those files which of course arn't there and so returns the 404 error messages. Have tried adjusting the settings in the Articulate template regarding the notes settings as per
http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/kb/?p=1500 - but this does not help. Seems like a bug !
