Articulate 3 - Export to word not producing file

Jul 31, 2019

Good morning,

Several of our Articulate Stroyline 3 users have recently had their software updated (now on update 6: 3.6.18134.0) this now appears to have broken the publish to Word feature. When publishing to Word 2010 the "congratulations x was published successfully" appears immediately but no actual file is created (likewise the email, ftp, zip and open links also do nothing).

I can see that when this publishing request is run it is firing up a new Winword.exe process in the background, but does nothing else. I have scoured the internet and found other users with identical issues on earlier versions of the software, but no concrete suggestions on how to remedy this problem.

To confirm: This issue also occurs when moving both the source project and export location to the local drive on the PC (normally flagged as RO by group policy for users in our enviroment but I have now given the affected staff full access to this drive). This also occurs for me whenever I try to run the same process (as a domain administrator) suggesting that this issue is not permissions based.

I have tried all the usual steps (checked file blocking in Word, confirmed both Word and Articulate are running the same language standard etc.) with no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas of what else we could try to restore this feature?

Many thanks!

Andy

Hi Andy!

Thank you for explaining the steps you took! It's always helpful to see which issues we can cross off the list as potential snags.

It sounds like you are running into an issue where you publish the course created in Storyline 3 to Microsoft Word 2010. After publishing, the published course is no where to be found.

I've seen this happen if the translated language for your Articulate project hasn't been added to Word's language options. The easiest way to correct it is to add a keyboard input language in Microsoft Windows.

If you're using Windows 10, here is how to change that.

If I'm off-base, please let me know!

Hi Lauren,

I like your thinking!  Unfortunately I've already checked that: even when Office, Windows and Articulate are all using English (US) the process still fails to produce a Word file!

As an aside, I have also done a full reinstall of the Articulate Storyline 3 software this morning and still no joy : (

Any other ideas?

Thank you for your help!
