Articulate Storyline 2.0 - Flash support for Chrome 56.0x

Feb 01, 2017

Hello team,

I am authoring the content using SL 2.0. I have included Captivate Movie files (SWF) inserted in the slides using Insert > Flash object. I am able to view the captivate movie in Single Slide / Scene / Story Preview.  When I published the output as LMS Output, I am not able to see the captivate movie, it displays a blank screen in Chrome (version 56.029 ).

I checked Chrome settings and enabled the settings to display flash content by clicking Settings > Show Advanced Settings. In Privacy, I clicked Content settings and under Flash > Allow sites to Run Flash was turned on.

Still I am not able to see the flash movie.

Is this a known issue?  Is there any workaround for this issue?

Hi there Milind!

Wendy mentioned testing your file in SCORM Cloud, and I wanted to share the directions here to help you go through that testing, as well as our documentation on Flash Movie Best Practices. I'm curious - are you able to see the Flash movie in other browsers besides Chrome 56?

Have a look at those links, and let us know how you make out with testing in SCORM Cloud.

Hello,

Thank you for your support.

I tested behavior of the flash files by uploading  the SCORM package on the following site - http://tempshare.articulate.com/?_ga=1.196832300.1641016954.1447249582

It generated a output which can be viewed for 10 days after publishing - here is the link http://s3.amazonaws.com/tempshare-stage.storyline.articulate.com/sto_1b8b3jpug9hdgq51ppu1hnl17379/story.html

The Captivate movies played correctly here. Seems some problem when we try to locally see the published out put.

Hi Milind,

Thanks for coming back with an update. If you view a Storyline course on your local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail. To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published.

  • If you publish for Web, you'll want to upload the zip file to a web server or to Tempshare for testing
  • If you publish for LMS, you'll want to upload the zip file to your LMS or to SCORM Cloud for testing

Let us know if you're still having trouble, and we'll investigate further!
