Audio Not Working On iPad

Sep 26, 2023

I'm testing my app on iPad. When I click an audio button, the audio plays as intended. But if I walk away from the iPad and it goes to "sleep," the audio no longer works when the iPad "wakes."

Hello Anthony,

Thanks for reaching out!

Would you mind telling us more about the app that you're using on your iPad so we can better understand what's happening?

  • Is the app used for opening courses that are hosted on an LMS, or does it function like an HTML reader?
  • If it's used for an LMS, is the LMS SCORM compliant?
  • Have you tested how your course behaves in a different environment to see if the issue is specific to your app? You can test your course in SCORM Cloud to confirm the behavior.

Looking forward to your response!

It works on the iPad iOS 15.7, but is not working on 16.7.

Yes, we have audio problems on Review 360 as well as on our FTP site.

We've tried it on several different devices (iPad, Android tablet, iPhone,
Windows laptop). It seems to work fine on all devices except the iPad and
iPhone. We are primarily concerned with the iPad.

It works fine on my iPad, which is running iOS 15.7. It does not work on
three other iPads, all of which are running iOS 16.7.

I hope this information helps!

I could reproduce the problem with my iPad 7th generation (iPadOS 16.7)

how I have tested (-> Review 360, course published with SL 3.80)

  • start course
  • wait until no audio is running anymore*
  • off switch
  • on switch
  • home button -> safari visible
  • next page -> no audio anymore
  • only refresh browser html page solves the audio problem

* if I interrupt the audio with click off switch -> no audio problem after click on !!!

----------------------------

now the same test with iPhone SE (iOS 15.7.9) - I have no iPad with iPadOS 15.7

  • no audio problem after switch off/on

a test with iOS/iPadOS 17 would be interesting - but I will upgrade my iPad with a later version of iOS 17

you should open a support case with all infos

Hi Patrick!

I see that Jurgen has been helping you out, and noticed you've also submitted a support case. Smart move! It looks like you connected with my colleague Darrell who replied to your e-mail sharing some feedback on this issue.

Darrell was able to reproduce the behavior where audio won't play on iOS devices when resuming from device sleep mode. We currently have this logged as a software bug that our team is actively tracking. For your reference, here's a closer look at how we tackle bugs.

We'll let you know as soon as we have an update on this issue. Thank you for letting us know about this, and I’m sorry if it’s been slowing you down!
