Base Layer Popping Up with Reminder to View All Slide Layers

Aug 16, 2022

Hello,

I am trying to create a slide that has multiple layers with content for the user to click through.

The learner needs to click through ALL layers before they can click NEXT, so I need a "Reminder to Review" layer to pop up anytime the learner tries to click NEXT if they haven't viewed all the layers.

The problem I have is that the base layer keeps showing with the pop up. I need the layer to just pop up OVER the current layer the learner is on, no matter what layer that is. Instead, when I change the trigger settings, either the reminder shows on a blank layer, or it kicks the learner back to the base layer.

Is this type of pop-up possible?

I suggest you just disable the NEXT button until the layers have been viewed. I think most users recognize a disabled button and know that clicking it won't do anything.

This post has more info about controlling the NEXT button that way (and other ways):

Alternately, you could put the "Reminder" on a separate slide, and lightbox it. That would make it appear on top of whatever layer is currently showing.

Both Ron and Judy have great ideas, but if you want the exact solution you proposed, that can be done, also. Just deselect the reminder layer's "Hide other layers" property. Then when it is shown, it will pop up on top of any other open layer. I give it a set time, give the message a fade exit, and hide the layer when its timeline ends. Message pops up, fades to invisibility, and nothing else changes.

I keep running into this:
1.) Deselect hide other slide layers AND hide objects on base layer--the text/images of the base layer show with the pop up on every other layer.

2. Deselect hide other slide layers BUT select hide objects on base layer-- the the pop up displays on a blank screen on the base layer--I need it to show over the base layer AND all other layers.

Unfortunately, my organization wants an "X" icon on the reminder box so the user has to click out of the reminder box manually each time, so I can't use the timeline fade feature.

Your example is a great one, though! Thank you for sharing.
