Hi, everyone!
I have some great news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 77, we've included important fixes and new features.
One of the enhancements we've included:
- Storyline 360 now supports screen recordings on primary and secondary monitors with DPI settings over 100%.
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you need additional help!

Hi Nicole, thanks for checking in. I popped into your case, and I see that Ryan reported this as a software bug. Our team is looking into it, and we'll definitely let you know once we get more information. In case you're interested, here's how we tackle bugs once they're reported.
I take it this issue hasn't been fixed yet? I'm getting the same black screens. As soon as you click on the screen, it's fine until the next animation. Any ETA on a fix?
Hi Bart,
This issue is still present for screen recording in Storyline 360 when you insert them as step by step with "view" mode enabled. IS that the same set up you're seeing?
Actually it is. Only happens when you view in html5. It's not the case using Flash.
Sorry that you're running into this as well, but thanks for confirming Bart. Yes, this is still an open issue as Ashley mentioned.
I do not have an ETA to share, but you're in the right place to get updates when we have them.
Is this the same problem as most of the screen being black with the small recording in the corner in all views (from workspace, preview, publish)?
Hi there Amy!
Thanks for sharing the screenshot--that was really helpful! Let's narrow down why this is happening:
Keep me posted!
Hi Alyssa,
I'm using 360, v3.10.(other numbers). I'm using the standard 720x405 story size. Recording size was about 1140x620 I was connected to a monitor, so I tried recording just using the laptop monitor, and that worked. This will get me by for the current project. And I have done a full software simulation course with this system and monitor, so it was working. Maybe an update introduced a bug.
Thanks.
Amy
Hi Amy,
Good to know it worked after disconnecting your monitor. Since we're now on update 3.11.14249.0, try updating your software and do a new screen recording with the monitor connected.
Let me know if that solves it!
I'm having the exact same issue as Amy H was four months ago.
I'm using Articulate 360, running the latest version (3.15.15581.0), screen recording dimensions are 1046x786 on my monitor, 720x405 on my laptop.
I get the attached results when I record with my monitors connected. It works on my laptop, but my laptop screen size is too small to record what I need effectively. I thought I could do a workaround with Peek, but it has the exact same issue.
Is there a fix for this yet, or any idea what's causing the issue?

UPDATE: I fixed the issue by changing my display settings in Windows 10
1. Go to Control Panel > Display > Change Display Settings
2. Slide the slider bar under the monitor displays to 100% (labeled as: Change the size of text, apps, and other items: XXX%)

I still think this issue needs to be resolved by the developers, it took me a LOT of digging to figure out the fix and I lost 4+ hours of work on a project that was supposed to be completed today. Record screen is such a critical feature of Storyline, it needs to work reliably.
Thanks everyone!
Thanks, Nicole for sharing that update and that the change in your settings worked.
Can I ask what it was set to prior? Also, were you able to project to the larger monitor and record solely there vs. on the laptop? Or does this occur when it's connected to the second monitor regardless?
Hi ,
I have recorded simulations on 768-1024 resolution, yet I am getting a black background in all the screens even if I view in 768-1024.
Hi there, Srishti. Thanks for the screenshot! Can you let me know what your desktop display settings are showing? You'll want to use 100% for best results.
Here's how to check:
Let me know if that helps!
It was set to 140%, I don't know about projecting, I've only worked on my laptop or on the two monitors. Thanks!
Thanks for the update, Nichole!
By the way, you can edit out your contact information from your post if you'd like! Replying via email will include your signature.
Ah, I didn't realize, thank you so much!
This is still an issue, has anyone worked on this? I was told it is a bug, I literally cannot use the view mode in articulate without getting this problem, I would think this would be a priority? My display was already set at 100%, so that did not fix the issue. Please let me know that someone is still at least looking into this.
Hi Nicole! Thanks so much for reaching out, and I'm really sorry this is still plaguing you.
I do see you had a case with Ryan back in August 2017 where you'd see a black screen when previewing a slide. I just re-testing the file you shared in that case using the latest update of Storyline 360, and everything appeared to work normally.
Are you on the latest update of Storyline 360? To check, click the Help tab, then click About Storyline. You should see 3.17.16188.0 in the bottom-right corner.
Hi Alyssa,
I currently have this issue on a published package made in 360. It is only occurring on a few video slides. I need to get this fixed asap as this is being rolled out to 5 separate hospitals with over 6000 staff.
Hi there, Eric. We're happy to get you some help! Let me ask a few troubleshooting questions:
If you can attach your .story file here, I'm happy to do some testing. If you need to keep it private, feel free to send it along to our support engineers for fast help. Give them the answers to the above as well so they can start off on the right foot.
Thanks for reaching out!
Hi everyone,
Good news! We fixed the issue you reported where:
Record screen inserted as view mode steps is blank after publishing.
Install the latest Storyline 360 update to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes. Here's how.
If the problem happens again, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I'll be happy to help!
Hi. I encountered an error while publishing my course in Rise. The content published from SL360. Kindly refer the attachment. When I insert the voice over (.mp3 file), the content screen will be displayed with the blank screen (black color) and also the play button. If I removed the audio, the content will be displayed as usual (the first screen that I’ve set in my SL360).
Hi there, Nor. Happy to dive in!
If you're able to share the .MP3 file with us for testing, that would be gold! You can send it privately to us by using this upload link. Also, what browser(s) are you using to troubleshoot?
We'll run some tests in a similar environment, and delete it after!
