Compatibility with Google Chrome

Jul 17, 2017

Hi, I'm having a new issue with my Articulate Storyline projects and Chrome.

I'm uploading them as SCORM packages to an LMS, but in the last month or so I've had problems with their appearance online - my text boxes appear a different colour, and all the Is are missing from the text on some slides. This is despite a completely normal appearance within Articulate Storyline itself.

This appears to be a compatibility issue with Chrome, because they look and work perfectly on Mozilla and IE.

At the moment I've just written an instruction to use Mozilla or IE instead, but it would be good if I could solve this issue.

Thanks!

Hey Victoria,

That's definitely not what I'd expect to happen! Sorry you're running into these issues in Chrome.

Have you tried testing one of the files you're seeing these issues with in SCORM Cloud? That'll give a good indication of whether this is a file specific issue or something happening within the LMS.

If you can share one of your .story project files here, I'm also happy to help with testing! You can add it as an attachment right to a comment here in the thread.

Keep me posted!

Hey Victoria-- Thanks so much for sharing your file with me. I uploaded it to SCORM Cloud and I'm not seeing any changes when viewing it in Google Chrome. Take a look at it here and let me know if I'm missing something!

If you're still seeing a difference, can you share a screenshot of what you see?

Also- the missing letter "i" was a sporatic issue reported to us by community members using Google Chrome v59. The latest Chrome update (v60) from last week has resolved it. Double check and make sure you're on the latest version!

Let me know how that goes ☺️

Hi there Kathy,

Thanks for also chiming in here with your file! I'm sorry this has been slowing you down.

If you're uploading to a learning management system, make sure you're using the option "publish for LMS" as it will be specifically formatted for that environment.

I published your course for LMS and uploaded it to SCORM Cloud to test it. Take a look at it here and let me know if you still see those issues. Make sure to verify you're on the latest Chrome (v60), too!

If you're still seeing a difference there, can you also share a screenshot of what you see?

Really appreciated- Keep me posted here :)

Hi Victoria,

Thanks for sharing the image. I took a look in Chrome as well, and it matched what you're seeing in Firefox. I had Flash enabled as a part of my Chrome browser, so it appears to be specific to the HTML5 display of the text entry. That would also explain why it works fine in Firefox as Storyline 2 did not support HTML5 output in Firefox.

Can you confirm if you're viewing the HTML5 output in Chrome?

Hi Ashley,

You were right - it was a problem with Flash on my institution's Google Chrome settings. Even though I have my settings so that Flash is allowed, I needed to add my LMS as an exception or allowed site and then it worked perfectly.

If anyone else is having this problem, I found the instructions for the changes to my Chrome settings here: https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003142748-Viewing-Flash-and-HTML5-Content-in-Google-Chrome

The moment I did this, the packages displayed correctly.

Thanks for your help with this!

Victoria
