Course Resume visits already viewed content

Apr 22, 2019

Hello, I can't find this exact scenario in any of the forums so I'm hoping for some guidance.

Issue: The first time a learner goes through the course, if they stop part-way through and come back to resume the course later, they are prompted to Resume, but it takes them back into a quiz slide they have already completed.

What I have checked:

  • This occurs the first time the learner is navigating the course. This is not the use-case where a learner has completed the course, and is revisiting to review it.
  • Player Settings are set as 'Resume On Restart: Prompt to resume'
  • All individual slides are set to 'Player features: Player defaults'
  • All individual slides are set to 'When revisiting: Automatically decide'  - or - 'Reset to initial state' when I have hover states of 'Visited' or there's an embedded video that needs to play.

More details:

  • I am in SCORM 1.2 format
  • BRIDGE is the LMS I am using
  • Course design: There is a main menu with 9 different tiles for the learner to click on to review each in more detail.   Each tile leads to a different Section which includes a quiz in that same section (quizes are not broken out as different Sections).

Hi everyone!

Good news! We are no longer seeing this bug in the latest version of Storyline 360 (Build 3.72.29699.0) where an object's state will not be saved or remembered after clicking to show layer when a course is relaunched and the player Resume property is set to “Prompt to resume” or “Always resume”.

To insure you don't continue to see this bug download the latest version of Storyline 360 via the Articulate 360 desktop app. Here's an article on how to do that.

Please let us know if you're still noticing the issue, and we'd love to continue troubleshooting with you in a support case.

In addition, even when the learner does the complete the course, they are not getting credit for it.  It keeps returning them to the content they have already reviewed (a quiz question in the middle of the course) so they are stuck re-taking quizes and reviewing the same content over and over again.

Hi there, Wendy. Resuming a course should bring your learner to the slide where they exited during the last session. It sounds like the resume data is not working correctly, and this can happen when it exceeds the LMS limits, for example. This article has more information and solution ideas. Can you use one of the SCORM 2004 editions?

You can also test your content in another LMS environment. We use SCORM Cloud. Let me know if you are seeing the same behavior!

Hi Wendy!

When you host your content on SCORM Cloud, you'll get a URL link to your content you can share with others. Only those who have access to that link will be able to view your content.

Alright, I've uploaded and tested my course in SCORM Cloud.  When I am prompted to resume, it does appear to be working correctly.  However, it only prompts me to resume every other time.  Example:

  1. Enter the course for the first time, complete part of it and exit.
  2. From SCORM Cloud, choose Relaunch Course at which point I am prompted to 'Resume' and all of my progress is just as I would expect it.
  3. Continue taking more of the course (but do not complete it), then exit.
  4. From SCORM Cloud, choose Relaunch Course and now the course is completely reset to the very beginning.

This is repeatable over and over again.  How can I get my course to truly resume every time a user revisits it before they've completed it?

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for sharing the results of your SCORM Cloud testing.

Are the quizzes that are throughout your course in question banks?

We do have an issue with inconsistent tracking/resume behavior when a course has multiple question banks and exiting multiple times.

Hi Leslie,

Sure, I'm uploading the course now (it's rather large so is taking awhile) and have referenced this forum thread in the details.  I realized I forgot to mention that my SCORM Cloud testing was done by publishing to SCORM 2004 format.  I'll need to stick with SCORM 1.2 for my final publish to my company's LMS.  Thank you so much for your help on this.

Hi John,

Thanks for reaching out. I do not have a resolution to share with you regarding Wendy's issue above. A bug report was filed, but it was related to states and layers, and it sounds like you are running into a different issue.
