I just tested this & it doesn't have to be on a button. Have you tried an Exit Course trigger when the Timeline Ends? You could also use a when the Media completes trigger.
It's the same ol' Firefox security issue. Unfortunately, security restrictions in some modern web browsers (such as Firefox) prevent windows from closing themselves, so the Exit course trigger will not close the browser window.
However, it will work if the course is launched by another browser window. To work around this restriction, configure your Storyline player to launch in a new window:
Go to the Home tab, and click the Player button.
Click the Other button on the toolbar.
Mark the Launch player in new window (creates launch page) check box.
Click the OK button to save your change, and republish your story.
Since this was supposed to be for a course in a LMS, I'm guessing the same restriction would apply. You normally don't (or shouldn't) use the separate launch page for LMS courses, right?
In the HTML5 version of my courses, I have found that the Exit Course trigger doesn't work. Seems to work for the other versions however.
I've tried a published course (using html5 option) running from the LMS on both PC IE9 and iPhone safari. The course exit trigger works fine on PC but not on mobile, this is confirmed in the article listed above [http://www.articulate.com/support/kb_article.php?product=st1&id=1568gg1ayot2] This isn't problematic though, as simply closing the window on the iPhone does send the results to the LMS OK, so rather than an exit button, a simple message saying something like 'Close window to exit course' would do fine. Closing the window on the PC also submits the results, so the exit button could be eliminated altogether if a course is to be viewed on mobile and PC.
I am very new to Storyline having moved from Presenter, and I am trying to figure out how to get a course to close automatically once it has finished with the last slide.
I am posting the course to an LMS using SCORM 1.2, using Internet Explorer. I have tried both the exit triggers of when media completes and when timeline ends, and the course is not closing and taking me back to the LMS home page.
I currently do not have it launching in a new window, as I have found that the Articulate Launch button that appears in the background, tends to be clicked by the user and they don't wait for the seperate window to open.
Am I using the correct trigger? I am using the triggers within the Player-Menu section.

Thanks, Brian. Will give that a try.
Hey, Brian! No love yet with this. BTW, what browser are you using?
Hmm, works fine in Google Chrome and IE 9 but not in FF 12 . . .
Hi Gerry,
Can you send a copy of the .story file to me in a private message?

Hey, Brian!
I tried it first with a test file. Nothing confidential so I can share it here.
Launch output

Forgot to add, always works perfectly in Storyline preview but after that . . .

Also, HTML5 content does not support the Exit course trigger. For full comparison of Storyline's Flash, HTML5, and Articulate Mobile Player output, click here: http://www.articulate.com/support/kb_article.php?product=st1&id=1568gg1ayot2

If it is the same issue, the exit button would work in Firefox if the content is being viewed from within the LMS.
