Flash issue Storyline 2

Aug 04, 2015

Good day Heroes,

One of our customers is having problems with displaying our Storyline 2 courses. It stays completely blank after launching the course. The course is published with the addition of HTML5 and they use the following setup:

  • Browser: Internet Explorer 10.0.9200.17229
  • Adobe Flashplayer: 11.9.900.117

We found out that it has something to do with the version of the flashplayer they are using. The IT-department tested different versions of the flashplayer on location and got better results. Unfortunatly they can't change the version of the flashplayer on all the workstations and laptops. Is there any way we can force the use of HTML5 over the use of flash in Internet Explorer? Or do you have any other thoughts about finding the solution?

Kind regards,

Lars

Hi Lars,

You can point directly to the HTML5 output by using the story_html5.html link but IE is not a supported browser for HTML5 output. You mentioned it was a particular Flash version - do you know what version it was and what browser version of IE was being used? You can see all our system requirements here.

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for your quick response. Unfortunatly we can't point directly to the HTML5 file because the course is loaded in to our LMS "Moodle". Moodle handles the scorm in such way that we can't find the actual scorm and uses its own scormplayer/module to track scores and results.

As for the versions of flashplayer and browser, our customer uses the following:

Adobe flashplayer: 11.9.900.117 and Internet Explorer 10.0.9200.17229

According to the system requirements for a "content viewer" it should work.

Thanks in advance

  Lars

Hi Lars,

Thanks for sharing that info - and yes, most LMS systems don't allow you to point directly to the HTML5 file as indicated. In regards to the browser, those should be working (sorry I missed them in your first post), but I'm curious if you've been able to test it in those environments as well? Is it only the users which are seeing this? If so, could there be an additional block associated with company firewalls or something similar? You could look at also loading the course up to SCORM Cloud as it's an industry standard for testing SCORM output.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the tip about testing it in scormcloud. All seems to work fine and we have no errors. It's not likely that the company firewall is causing the problem, because when they use another version of flashplayer it works just fine. Unfortnunatly they can't change the player version on all theyre clients. Its just to many of them..

We diddn't test it onsite at our customer our selves. This is done by theyre IT department during the pilot of the course and the results of the test is in my first post.

Do you have any other ideas of what can cause the issue?
