Garbled text

Jul 25, 2017

I've recently upgraded to Storyline 3 and I'm experiencing an issue with garbled text. This happens in both preview mode and in the published version. The font used is Benton Sans, not a standard font, but this is my companies brand font and is fully installed. It was used in all our SL2 courses without issue. My colleagues have the same problem.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had something similar and has any recommendations?

Hi Richard,

Storyline 3 Update 3 is when modern text was introduced, and we're now on Update 4. Do you know what update of Storyline you're using? You can check by going to the "Help" Tab -> "About Articulate Storyline".

It's always recommended to be on the latest update, and if you still seeing missing characters in your published output, let us know and we can reopen your support case

I am on SL3 with the latest update installed and was experiencing the same issue while using Benton Sans.

I uninstalled and reinstalled SL3 with no luck.

Surprisingly, when I unchecked the "Use Modern Text" option in my project's slide master the text was no longer jumbled.

Only time will tell if it a permanent fix but I hope this helps!

Thanks, Colton, for sharing.  We have an issue documented where the modern text is affecting some text in preview and in slide editing.  Were you also seeing the text garbled in your published output?

Also, did you completely disable modern text, or did you toggle it off and on?  Thanks for helping us refine our facts and nail down this bug.

Hi everyone! I'm excited to let you know that we released update 6 for Storyline 3! It includes enhanced features and fixes - Check them out here.

One fix addressed an issue where modern text would sometimes become invisible in the Storyline editor.

Hi E P! Happy to help you investigate this.

Do you happen to know which web browser that learner was using when they ran into the issue? If it was Internet Explorer 11, it could be that their font download setting is disabled.

Here's how learners can enable that setting to see the font correctly. Please let me know if that helps, or if we need to keep digging!
