I have done this many times before so its not just a matter of selecting "large" while publishing...
When I try to publish my current project to word for review I can only publish with medium image sizes... when I select large images it still publishes - but with the smaller image size.
I have published this same project on the same computer to word with large images several times, most recently about two weeks ago without an issue.
The only thing in my mind that could be an issue is the size of the project. Its 17 scenes with a total of 190 slides plus layers... although I don't think that is really all that big.
Its crunch time (of course) and I need to do this to help with a final review and to record audio.

If you're still running into trouble after checking those, can you share a copy of your .story file here with us and we'll take a look at publishing it?
It was not a file size issue as I tried it on an older project and on a new two slide file that I created just to test it. First thing this morning it still wasn't working but then mid morning, following the exact same steps it did work, same computer, saving to same hard drive etc. just like I have many times before.
I didn't do anything different, but it did publish mid morning so I saved that file and haven't tried it again.
It's definitely bizarre behavior - so I'd suggest looking into the repair as I mentioned and see how it behaves after that. Please feel free to keep us posted!

I haven't seen that happen before - so I'd want to:
a) make sure you're following the steps here to publish to Word
b) Publishing to a local drive as described here
c) want to know if you've gone through the repair steps here
