How to fully disable responsive player?

Jan 17, 2017

Hello,

the course I am building works well on any desktop browser but not on any mobile device, where the 'responsive player' is triggered instead of the standard player. How could I disable the responsive player so that it would use the standard player on all devices?

Thanks in advance!

Judging by the "hack" code folks have offered, I am guessing the Responsive Player is triggered by device and/or web browser. Our company has recently moved to a responsive design UI that is based on screen resolution. Is there a "hack" to trigger the Responsive Player to load based on the screen resolution instead of the device being used? If not, has Articulate considered either using screen resolution to trigger the Responsive Player or letting us users decide when and under what circumstances to launch the Responsive Player? Thanks!

Hi Jeremy,

Your correct that it's triggered by the device and browser the user is on. As for the hack, I'll leave that in the hands of the community till we release the unified player approach we're working on. 😉

We're still hard at work on the unified player, and a few other things in the pipeline before that, but once we’re able to share an update on this we’ll let you know!

Do you have any more information on the unified player or its availability? My company is currently considering re-publishing over 1,000 software simulations made with Storyline 1 and Storyline 2 so that we can have the HTML5 first option selected. This is because of our numerous complaints about users without Flash and inconsistent results with HTML5. I do not want to begin down the road of re-publishing everything with Ariticulate 360, if we will just need to do it again once the unified player is completed. We are talking about literally months worth of work and I would be forever grateful if I could get any firm details on this unified player project. From what I could tell reading other posts in the community, it looks like it should be released by the end of this quarter and before the end of the year, is that still accurate?

Hi Jeremy,

We're working on this feature right now! Our current target for release is still end of this year, but as with any development of new features, timing can shift as testing and beta testing for it occurs. We always want to make sure it's the best it can be before putting it in your hands.

We'll let you know here as soon as we can about it's release, I promise we won't make you ask about that update!

It's been about two months since I last heard anything about the unified player. I was also told it would be released this year. Any word on when that release will happen? I have been holding off on updating my 1,000 software simulations to see what this looks like. I would like to republish all active courses with HTML5 first via Articulate 360, but I would like to understand the unified player before beginning that massive project. Is the plan still to have the unified player released in 2017? If not, when can we expect it? Thank you!

Hi folks,

Some good news - the Modern Player (formerly 'Unified') is now entering its final phase of Beta testing and is on track to ship in Q1. While this is later than originally planned, we've used the time to broaden the feature set and incorporate feedback from the Beta process.

We're not bringing the current desktop player to mobile devices. It was designed to be used on desktop-sized screens with a mouse and keyboard and is not optimized for mobile learning. The mobile player we shipped with Storyline 360 and Storyline 3 was optimized for mobile devices, but wasn't consistent with the desktop experience or as fully featured.

The Modern Player fully addresses those concerns. It's a sleek, modern interface that provides a consistent learner experience everywhere while adapting seamlessly to different screens. It's best thought of as a next generation player that brings our full playback experience to every device.

We'll preserve both options going forward, so you can decide how and when to update your existing courses to take advantage of the new player.
