How to Pull LMS Report on Storyline Short Answers

Aug 11, 2014

We publish our Storyline modules in SCORM 1.2 and need to be able to review user answers to the Short Answer quiz questions. Our LMS provider says there is no way to report these directly. Is there a workaround that allows me to create a report that shows the text users enter as answers to the questions?

Good afternoon James, and welcome to Heroes!

This information is communicated to learning management systems (LMSs) by Articulate Storyline SCORM and AICC content. What your LMS is able to do with this information from a reporting perspective is entirely at their discretion.

Please let us know if you need anything else, and have a great day!

Thanks for the quick reply, Justin! Can you help me interpret the link you sent me to? Which of the below contains text replies in short answers:

  • id: Storyline sends a series of data for this string to identify the Scene#, the QuestionDraw# (if applicable), and the Slide# in that particular scene or question draw.
  • type: This is the type of question (True/False, Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, etc).
  • student_response: This is how the learner answered the question.
  • correct_response: This is the correct answer for the question.
  • result: This designates whether the learner answered the question correctly or not.
  • weighting: Articulate content doesn't currently utilize this item. It'll always be set to 1.
  • latency: This is how long it took the learner to answer the question.
  • objective: Articulate content doesn't currently utilize this item. It'll always be set to 0.
