Images Are Always Lower Resolution After Publish

Jul 30, 2021

Is there a fix for this? Outside of the normal, check our literature on proper settings responses. None of that works. Something about SL's publishing mechanics downgrade high-resolution images, despite setting the image quality export settings to 100%. It's frustrating, makes it hard to reliably share storyboards with our clients, and adds an extra step post-export, as it requires me going in to the export package and manually replacing tons of images each time.

Thanks for reaching out, Curtis!

I can understand why this is frustrating you, and we want to help.

From here, I'd love it if you could work 1:1 with a support engineer to help determine why you see a loss in image quality after publishing.

Please feel free to share one of the image files here, and someone on my team will reach out soon!

For anyone else experiencing this issue, just want to publicly record this as unresolved. Was sent to bug tracking.

Specifically, images universally export (LMS, Web, Review) in lower-resolution than they are pre-export. Articulate support claims that images must be developed and inserted already scaled to match the slide size in the course. If post-insertion, you resize the image at all, it will render in lower resolution post-export. However, it's not possible to meet this requirement when importing a course from PPT to Storyline since there isn't a way to set the course dimensions when importing.

Only current workaround I'm aware of is to open the export package and manually replace the affected images. As far as I now, this is not possible when exporting to Review, which makes for some awkward conversations with our client reviewers.

If anyone out there knows a faster workaround, would love to hear about it. Thanks!

Hi, Curtis.

I have great news to share!

We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 63, we’ve included important fixes and new features.

One of the fixes we’ve included is:

We improved how Storyline 360 handles images during import and in the published output, resulting in crisper images.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let us know if you have any questions by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.
