Importing a Powerpoint with Audio into Storyline - Audio wont Import

Apr 09, 2015

Hello - I am trying to import a Powerpoint w/audio into Storyline 2. I insert the Powerpoint successfully with the audio. However,  the audio does not attach once I have selected and imported the slides to create a new scene.

Hi Cerah!

Looks like it is m4a audio, which is what Ashley shared above and we are aware of an issue.

You can see the file types via:

  1. Save the presentation as a .pptx.
  2. Navigate to the file in Windows Explorer, right click it and select rename.
  3. Add “.zip” to the end of the file name so it looks like this: “filename.pptx.zip”.
  4. Click enter.

Hi all!  I wanted to provide an update here, as Storyline 2 Update 8 was just released, and included a number of fixes which you can see in the release notes available here.

The item you all may be particularly interested in is how it fixes an issue where M4A audio files in PowerPoint wouldn't be imported into Storyline. You can download the latest update here, and after downloading and installing the latest update you’ll want to republish any existing content to ensure that the updates and fixes are applied.

Let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

When I save the audio from my PowerPoint they are .WMA files. your PowerPoint saves them as .MP3 files. But it doesn't make any difference both don't bring across the audio into Articluate (v8.16 on Windows 7 PC) when I import the PowerPoint slides. Is there a fix for this? I have lots of PowerPoints to convert and I don't want to save the audio and then reimport, it will be too time consuming.

I'm running Win 8.1 with Storyline 2 v9: 1605:1919 and have not had any success importing audio with the Powerpoint file.  I have removed and reinstalled without any success of importing audio.  I asked in a different list if any Windows users had success and didn't receive any replies.  If you find a resolution I would be interested.  I continue to zip and import audio one by one. Perhaps load the version 9 update, maybe you'll have success.

Hi there Rudy,

Sorry you had such a hard time importing this PowerPoint file into Storyline 2! I was able to import it without a problem. When I previewed the file, the audio seemed to play normally.

It sounds like you've already tried the typical steps we recommend, like repairing Storyline and updating to the latest version. Let's dig a bit deeper -- what version of Windows and PowerPoint are you using?

In the meantime, here's a copy of the PowerPoint file imported into Storyline 2. I hope that gets you back up and running with your project!

Hi Jennie,

Thank you for reaching out and letting us know!

There could be a few reasons why the audio is not appearing in the PowerPoint file. Each Presenter project has a PowerPoint file for your slide content and a corresponding Presenter file for your Articulate resources, such as audio. The Presenter file is located in the same folder and shares the same name as your PowerPoint file; however, it will have a file extension of .ppta

When importing the PowerPoint file, does is share the same folder with the corresponding Presenter file?

For more details on this, we have a great help guide that I hope will help: Presenter 360: Audio Is Missing or Lost.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Hello nicole!

It sounds like you're running into an audio missing issue after importing a PowerPoint into Storyline.

The following scenarios can result in lost audio in Presenter 360. See each scenario for solutions.

If this is different than what you're running into, we're happy to work with you 1:1. You'll want to start with connecting with a Support Engineer.
