Internet Explorer and Storyline

Mar 05, 2014

I know this issue has been raised before though my users are having lots of problems accessing my Storyline courses through IE. I had thought the issue was just with IE11 though I've had reports about issues with IE9 as well. The courses work correctly in other browsers such as Chrome though is there any way that this can display correctly in IE? The message keeps stating to check my internet connection etc.

Thanks!

Hi G,

Are you hosting these in an LMS or on a web server? There is a known issue with content timing out in Moodle within Internet explorer - do you receive the error message at the start of the course or somewhere once started?

Could you share a bit more about how you're publishing your course, where it's hosted, what behavior is occurring, etc. so that we could help troubleshoot a bit more?

Hello Hello1

Hi Ashley

Yes, I am hosting through an LMS. The error message is at the beginning of the course and says: 'Unable to connect to server. Please verify that you are connected to the internet. Retry?'

There are other posts which mention this and one I've come across from Articulate suggests that it is an LMS issue, though I've contacted my LMS and they think the issue is with Storyline.

I know there is an IE updater for Presenter but don't know of any for Storyline and I do not even know if this would help. I just cannot seem to get a solution to this.

Any advice is very welcome as I will lose customers because of this.

Hi G,

I'm not sure which thread you're referring to that it may be an LMS issue, although that error does sound like the one indicated here when publishing with Tin Can API.  The easiest way to determine if it's an LMS issue or Storyline issue is to test your published content at SCORM Cloud as it's an industry standard testing method for SCORM Content. If it works there, then you'll want to share those results with your LMS team. If it doesn't work there, we'll want to take a look at your file. You can share it here in the forums with us, or if you'd prefer to share privately I can send you directions to send to me directly or you can always connect with our Support engineers.

Hello Ashley,

Since today, I am having so much problem displaying in IE 11. Some of the buttons do not work in IE but works perfectly in the 'Preview' mode.  Also the interactions looks weird. Sometimes they play and sometimes they do not. I was playing around with Player Properties earlier today (player size, resume etc).  I don't know if this was the problem.  Please could you tell me what is happening? Many thanks

Pamela Taylor

We're having a similar issue with buttons not showing up and drag and drop activities not working with IE11.   The interactions work fine in preview mode, and were tested in SCORM cloud and the LMS earlier on.  In fact they worked fine at one point on the LMS using IE, but now they are not working.   We worked with our IT team and excluded the possibility that security restrictions were causing the problem, so we're pretty confident it's an IE issue.   I'll be following to see if anyone has a solution, and will post if we find one.

Welcome to the family, Pamela! Really sorry you're seeing button issues in IE11. I don't see a solution specific to the author's case, but it looks like a fellow member noted above that a reset of the default settings and reboot of her computer helped.

Now let's dig deeper into your case! Can you help me with the following:

  • What version of Storyline are you using?
  • Did the interactions work as expected when you tested the course in SCORM Cloud?
  • Mind sharing your .story file so we can take a closer look at it in IE11? Simply pop it into this discussion and use the Add Attachment link in your reply. I'd like to personally replicate this behavior and make sure we've got you and your team covered.

I'll be here!
