Is there a way fix this weird bar that only shows up in hmtl5 output?

Jul 18, 2016

Hi everyone,

I've always noticed that there's a strange horizontal line before the "PREV" button in HTML5 output. It's been like this for ages now from what I've seen. Not sure if anyone knows how to fix this?

Thanks,

Virak

Hey there, Virak.  I'd like to confirm a few things, if that is ok!  Are you on the latest version of Storyline 2 (and since updating, have you republished the project)?  Is this happening on a single file, or on every one that you've published?  It looks like you are using the default font on the Previous button as well, is that right?  Also, what sort of device and/or browser are you using to view the HTML5 output?

If it is a single file, I would start with importing those slides into a new project, republish and then upload that newly published content to its destination (web, LMS, etc).  Also, you're welcome to share you .story file here, as well.

Hi Crystal,

I'm having the latest version of Storyline 2 (Update 9). This issue also happened in the previous version as well.

It only appeared in HTML5 version with the player that I download from Articulate and I customized based on it. Every course that this player is being used, they would show up something like that in the html5 version.

I've attached all the file and player that you would need.

Thanks,

Virak

Hey Virak.  I did some testing with your file, and I applied both your customized players as well as one of the Articulate downloads (I chose the red).  In the HTML5 output that I viewed (in Safari on my Mac without Flash Player), I did not have the little line in front of the Previous button.

I know you've said that it has been this way for ages-  have you republished these courses recently (since the latest update on May 23)?  Sorry if I've missed your answer.  What I'd want to rule out is this:  Will creating a new file, importing those slides and then applying that .xml player have a different result for you?

Using the files you gave me, I was able to get a clean output.  What device and/or browser are you using to view it after publishing?

Thanks for hanging in there!

Thanks for the information, Virak.  Well, I can narrow down one thing for you; the supported browsers for viewing HTML5 are listed here.  Edge and Internet Explorer are not supported for viewing HTML5 content created with Storyline 2.  But the Chrome issue is still weird.  A coworker of mine could hardly view the line in Chrome on her monitor, but different displays treat content...differently.

So I'm going to file a report with our QA team so they can do some investigating.  I'll be able to keep you updated with any discoveries.  For now, I might recommend figuring out which browser handles it best for you and advising your learners accordingly.  I'll let you know if I find out more!

Hi Crystal,

I do know that HTML5 output only works with Chrome, but for the sake of testing to see if that weird line would show up or not that's why I tested on the other browsers, jus like you did.

I really don't know where this is coming from either. Thanks for taking your time to investigate this issue and escalate the issue to your qa team. Please let me know if there's any update on it. I'm also hoping the Storyline 3 will be releasing asap, so that we can test it as well.

Thanks,

Virak
