Is there a way to reverse engineer a published file back to a storyline file?

Nov 26, 2021

Unfortunately, we are in a situation where a co-worker was let go due to covid-downsizing and we discovered too late that he had not uploaded the .story files for three courses to the shared drive and now it seems that we've lost those files forever.  All we have are the last published SCORM 2004 files, so I'm hoping there's a way to recreate the storyline file from the published content.  Has anyone tried this before?  Any help solving this dilemma would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

As Matthew states... reverse engineer it back to a Story-file is indeed not possible. However unzipping the Scorm file gives you at least the used assets... audio and graphics, and depending on the course it should be not too hard to rebuild it then.

In the past i had a similar issue. A system engineer did a wrong cleanup and Story files got deleted. At a later phase one of these projects had some changes so it had to be recreated in the above described way. Compared to the original needed time to recreate it was a fraction.
