Keyboard trigger doesn't work online

Aug 10, 2017

Hi all,

I have encountered a problem with some of the content put online by my company on an LMS. Our product often requires the use of short keys, so in order to try and get our users to use short keys over a mouse every test in our Articulate Storyline 2 course starts with them having to press CTRL+M. In the preview mode of Storyline everything works fine, but when using it on our LMS it doesn't. This results in user getting the first question wrong every time which is frustrating. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it? Because right now I am seriously thinking about ditching the first question of the test altogether.

Hi Marco!  I can tell that is frustrating.

Are they clicking or tabbing onto that slide before hitting CTRL + M?  I'm just wondering if the focus is not on the slide and that's why it isn't registering the key presses.

Does this happen on any other slide that requires a keypress?

CTRL + M doesn't appear to be a common browser shortcut, so I don't think there is any interference there.

They are clicking onto the next slide. We want users to get used to using the shortkey combination of CRTL+M, because they'll be using that quite regularly. We are teaching people how to work with certain software, and that software requires the CTRL+M combination to open the main menu. I have noticed that only 'M' is being registered, and CTRL is being ignored. Do you think that is a problem with our LMS or Chrome?

CTRL+M is not a shortkey in the LMS itself, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Hey Marco!

Thanks for those details. Try uploading your course to SCORM Cloud to see if the same happens there. This will give us a great idea of whether this is file related or something happening in your LMS.

You're also welcome to share a copy of your unpublished .story project file here and I'm happy to do some testing!

Keep me posted 🙂
