Linking trigger action button to a pdf in Resources

Apr 30, 2021

I know that I can link my trigger action button to a URL and that works fine but I found some info that said I can also link to a pdf on the Resources tab.  I used the instructions below but it didn't work - I get a message that says code access denied (among other things).  I can open the pdf on the Resources tab just fine. Any thoughts and help would be most appreciated.  Thanks so much.

Go to the Insert tab on the Storyline ribbon and click Hyperlink.
When the trigger wizard appears, select Jump to URL/file from the Action drop-down. (It's called Open URL/file in the new trigger workflow in Storyline 360.)
In the File field, type the following text, but replace MyFile.pdf with the name of your file and its file extension (it's case-sensitive): story_content/external_files/MyFile.pdf

Good afternoon Linda,

I understand how frustrating it is when you are working on a project and you are trying to add pdf's to your resources tab in classic mode in SL360 as it is difficult to do. I have found several solutions to your issue through a lot of trial and error of my own. These knowledgebases and forums below have the answers and useful tips for your issue.

I have found that it is easier to save pdf's to your personal computer instead of a cloud file when adding them to the resources tabs as SL360 has less errors. I have also found that SL360 wont let you view hyperlinks or paths to pdf's in preview mode and will pop up with several error boxes and you have to publish then view the file there to make the hyperlinks/pdf's work in the resources tab. I really hope this was helpful and hope you have a good weekend.
