Multiple Choice Quiz and the Submit Button
Jan 02, 2019
Hello Users,
I have a multiple choice quiz slide with a correct and incorrect layers with audio files attached to each. I added a trigger to disable/hide the Submit button on the player until the timeline ends for the quiz slide. When it ends, the submit button becomes available, which is what I wanted to achieve. However, if no answer is selected and the learners clicks Submit, he receives a pop up message that says "invalid answer, you must answer..."which is great but as soon as he clicks ok to that pop up message, both the correct and incorrect audio files play. How can I fix this? When the learner click ok on the pop up message, he should be taken back to the quiz so he can make a selection.
Thank you,
Javier

Hello Javier and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of what you are experiencing with your course.
This is an issue we are currently looking into, so I'll be sure to add this conversation to the report so that we can update you here when we have additional information to share.
Here is the workaround we've identified in the meantime:
Hi Leslie! Thank you much for replying.
The suggestion works. Please do keep me in the loop for updates.
Javier
Yay! Thanks for letting us know, Javier!
You're in the right place to stay up to date on any new information, and here's an inside look at how we tackle bugs when they're reported!
Hi Javier, I'm wondering if you are using a Mac and run Storyline through Parallels. I had the same issue in Parallels running Windows 10, but the issue disappeared when I published on my windows machine (also running Win10).
Thanks for popping in to share with Javier, Megan.
I was looking back at your post here and it seems that the two of you seem to be having slightly different issues, but it never hurts to try to connect more dots :)
Yep, that was a different issue. I had this issue too... Although I've never had issues publishing from my Windows PC, only my Mac.
Hi Megan,
Were you publishing to the Mac side from within Windows? Our team recommends working exclusively within the Windows environment as noted within our Mac best practices article here.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
I'm also experiencing the same issue. I am using Windows and publishing in Windows - no Mac. Any solution to this problem.
Thanks
Sandy
Hi Leslie I'm also experiencing this issue. I tried adding this to correct/incorrect layers. When I click the submit button and the invalid answer comes up, I click OK and the correct feedback comes up. How can I fix this?
Thanks
Sandy
Yes, Sandy, see above from Leslie. It is a temp solution:
"Here is the workaround we've identified in the meantime:
Add a Play Media <Audio Name> when timeline starts trigger on both Correct/Incorrect layer."
Hi Javier, I tried that but it doesn't seem to work. I tried adding the trigger to correct/incorrect layers. When I click the submit button and the invalid answer comes up, I click OK and the correct feedback comes up. How can I fix this?
Sandy, it did work for me. I did not have to attempt any other workarounds.
Hi Sandy,
I'd be happy to take a look at your .story file if you'd like to share it here.
I think I found the solution in my case. I have multiple layers in the correct and incorrect. I applied the trigger to each layer and it works.
Awesome, Sandy! Thanks for letting us know what worked.
Worth noting this same behavior occurs with lightboxes triggering slide audio in multiple layers on close. The above solution worked there too.
Thanks for confirming Matthew. We have that issue open with our team as well and I'll add this conversation as well so that we can update you here.
Seeing another wrinkle. See attached: If you answer nothing on slide 1 click submit, the incomplete pop up comes up, but when you close it that popup if you wait 1 sec. it jumps to the next slide. It looks like the Incomplete pop up is triggering the Incorrect Layer timeline and then jumping to next.
30 min of cardio cleared my mind and a solution surfaced. By setting a variable at the beginning of the incorrect layer, and setting the "Jump to next slide" trigger on the condition that value = that variable seems to have resolved the issue.
Hope this saves someone else some headaches!
Ha, cardio saves the day! Really appreciate you coming back to share how you solved it. I'm sure this will help others who stumble on this thread in the future!
Great news! We just released another update for Articulate 360, and included a few important fixes that you'll see in the release notes here.
The item you'll be interested in is:
Fixed: Audio tracks from multiple layers could play simultaneously, even when the layers weren't open.
Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.
Please let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.
Terrific News! I will test out the fix in my next course. Thank you!
