Questions on S1 "Fill in the Blank"....Graded

Nov 28, 2014

Hey there,

I have a couple of questions on S1 "Fill in the Blank"...Graded.

Q1.  Can this S1 quiz (or any S1 Quiz for that matter) be "layered"... or does each Quiz have to be a separate slide? That is, would 50 questions require 50 separate slides? If you can layer it, how would that work?

Q2.  On this graded "fill in the blank" slide, I would like the "text" (when the learner is typing it in) to be a larger "point-size." However, the text just seems to default to an unchangeable "Articulate 16.5". Is there anyway to increase this point size?

Thanks in advance for your help!

All the best,

Thanks again Wendy!

As to Q1, I'll try that search you suggested.

As to Q2, I'm still haven't got it to work. I (myself) can surely make the text larger by scaling the text box larger and increasing the font point size. However...I need the one "filling in the blank" to be able to type-in that enlarged text size into the empty text-box field.

But when I go to preview the fill-in-the-blank slide, it always defaults back to an Articulate 16.5 font size. It seems you should be able to correct this by going into the "Edit Fill in the Blank" area. However, the only changes I see that you can make to your text is "Bold, Italics, or Underline."

There seems to be no way to custom set the "point size" when the learner is filling in the box.

Any ideas?

All the best,

Rand  :-)

Hi Rand

not sure I understand what you mean.  In my example, fill-in-the-blank text box has a default of Articulate size 12.  I change the Format Shape > Text box option to Autofit - resize shape to fit text.  In the text box I increase the text that says 'type your text here' to Articulate size 36.  When I preview it and type into it - the font size is Articulate size 36.  Maybe there should be an easier way to do this but this is the only way I know how.

If the text box isn't big enough for what the learner is typing into it...SL automatically adds a scrollbar to the text box.

Sorry if I am not understanding your issue.  When you preview my file let me know if it is not in the larger font.

Hey Wendy,

Well, after looking at your example, it finally dawned on me what was going wrong.
The reason my text font-size kept changing is because I had "no-text" in the original text box, as your example did. (Y'know, those words that say "Write your text here...")

I thought the box had to be "blank"...so that the learner could type their answer in. I didn't know that the "Write your text here" would disappear when the learner began to type.

And I didn't know that the learner's "fill-in-the-blank" input would match whatever point-size I chose for the "Write your text here"phrase

But I do now.
And it seems to be working.

Thanks for your help.
I couldn't have done it without you.

And I'm sure I'll be asking several more questions in the near future.

All the best!

If you don't want to have text in your box (e.g. "Write your text here..."), but you still want the size of the learner's response to be larger than the default size, you can do that too. Change the size of the font in the box to your desired size, (e.g. 18), and then click the space bar until you reach the end of the box. Now, when the learner types in the box, it will be larger.
