Quiz results not registering as Passed/Failed

Hi all,

Looking for help with a specific problem where my quiz developed in Articulate Storyline 360 doesn't register its results as Passed/Completed in the LMS (Cornerstone). Unfortunately, that is the only result status we want to track for it. (A learner is said to have completed the quiz only if he/she/they have passed it with a minimum score). 

I wish I could share the module here, but my client's confidentiality policy prevents me from doing so. Have attached screen shots of what I've inserted for triggers and in the Reporting & Tracking options. Not sure which of these is holding up the reporting in Cornerstone: program, select the right/single option in the Tracking tab, choosing the option in Reporting, or something else/also needs to be changed.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the screenshots!

On your results_reporting image, I noticed your reporting is set to Passed/Failed. What that means is that as long as the user completes the course, it will be marked as completed, but with a success status of either Pass or Fail. 

Changing it to either Completed/Incomplete (with no success status) or Passed/Incomplete should give you the reporting you are looking for.

Hi Maria,

Appreciate your insight...makes a lot of sense. However, we want the LMS to only record the success status...just need to see if the user has passed or failed. How do we do that?

Hi, Mala.

That's correct! If you want to see the success status (but Failed should remain "In Progress"), then Passed/Incomplete should be a better option for your scenario. The difference is that with Passed/Failed, the completion status will always be set to completed, regardless of the learner's results.

What do you see on the report in Cornerstone? 

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Can you remove the trigger to complete the course from your Results slide? Instead, check the "When user completes a quiz" option in the Tracking window. It will still take the Pass\Fail score into consideration. 
  • Let's rule out LMS issues by testing it in SCORM Cloud. Check out this step-by-step article!

You mentioned you cannot share the project here, but if you're able to share it privately through a support case, we're happy to take a deeper look and help troubleshoot it.

Hi Maria, 

The last option you suggested seems to have worked in one of the modules, but when I attempt to use it in the other modules, they've begun crashing over and over. I tried saving them as different versions (e.g., v8 instead of v7 in my numbering system) but the app is still either crashing or keeps prompting me to specify a tracking option because it hasn't saved my choice in the Tracking tab. I've even sent bug reports in the past 15 minutes. 

What should I do? Should I log a separate ticket for this?

We struggled as a team with reporting in CSOD. I finally came up with a solution (see attached file). If this solution still interests you let me know, I'd have to strip out some of the company info before I could share a Storyline file. I won't have time to do this before Christmas.

Hi,

The Articulate Support Engineer for that request quickly determined that since I hadn't put in a trigger for Submit Results in the Results slide, the Tracking Option for when the user completes the quiz wouldn't work when I tried to publish...when I inserted that trigger, there's been no problem. 

Fingers crossed all the files work fine in CSOD to capture the right status.
