Record Screen Story how to play on iPad through SharePoint?

Mar 04, 2013

I hope someone out there can help me. I have created about 10 How-to screen recordings for our company's Sales Dashboard. These are simple how-to demos and I do not need them in my LMS. I need them to play on an iPad but I am having a lot of trouble.

I have a Global Training Center SharePoint site (SharePoint 2010) that I created that holds all our documentation, work instructions, some Engage files, how-to's etc. I want to place the link to the Sales Dashboard how-to's on SharePoint. Doing this with the "regular" story file is fine when launching via a PC.

My issue is that when I try to create the link in SharePoint to the ioslaunch file...I get the error message on the iPad via the Articulate Player. When I create the link to the story_html5...the story will launch, but when it gets to the first click (I have the screen recording on several slides as I need to add audio, text, etc.) the file FREEZES on the iPad. Thus, I can't play the story on the iPad...which I really need to do since these files are for our distributed sales force.

Any thoughts via SharePoint...or is there another way so that the story can be viewed on the iPad?

Thanks,

Dave Baker

Hi Dave,

I may be wrong, but Sharepoint is password protected, correct? I believe I've seen this come up before and it turned out to be a problem with password protected hosting. The Articulate Mobile Player cannot access password protected content.

You may want to check out the thread below and see if the information helps with your course:

SharePoint / Mobile Player / "Cannot Access Content"

Christine,

Thanks for the information. We use Active Directory for authentication on our PC's...so there is no login to SharePoint. I did forget that on the iPad I do need to login to the site...but I thought once I did that it would work. So based on this and the comments in the threads you posted...I cannot use the Articulate Player via SharePoint or our LMS. I did test in our LMS (we use SAP LSO) and I got a Java runtime error.

I guess my question for the HTML5 is still valid....I can run it via SharePoint in Safari on the iPad...but it freezes. Again, this is a screen recording, and it freezes on the first "click."

Finally....how are people using Storyline on an iPad? Do the files need to sit on a web server with no password protection?

Hi David,

In short, yes. That would be the preferred method for hosting the files. However, if you'd like, we'd be happy to take a look and see if it's actually a limitation of hosting the content on SharePoint. Our tech team may be able to give you some additional information and suggestions, as well.

You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:
