Scroll Panel and Firefox

May 14, 2019

Hello everyone,

I'm using Storyline 3 and have large scroll panels throughout my eLOD. Everything is fine until I check things in Firefox. The scroll wheel from my mouse inches throughout it very slowly. Firefox is the only browser that does this and only scrolls slowly when viewing the module. I've looked for this happening to other people in the community and have only seen one other post from a year ago about this problem and there was no conclusion. I'd rather not have to put a disclaimer in at the beginning to use only certain browsers and I also would rather not have the user manually move the scroll bar up and down to reach content quickly. I was wondering if there was a possible solution to this problem, if anyone has experienced this, and what they did to fix it.

Thanks a ton,

Chris

Hi, everyone!

I have great news to share! We are no longer seeing this issue in our latest version of Storyline 360 (Build 3.73.29831.0), where scrolling is slow when the HTML5 content is viewed on Firefox.

To make sure your software is up-to-date, please launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and select the Update button next to Storyline 360. I've included our step-by-step instructions here!

Hi Chris,

I'd love to help troubleshoot this further with you.

Can you let me know:

  • What update/version of Storyline you're using?
  • What Firefox update you are using
  • Where you're hosting the content to test it?

Once I have that info, I can do a bit more testing on this end. If you'd like to share a link to the course or the .story file I can also check that too!

You can share it publicly here, or send it to our Support Team privately.

We'll delete it when done troubleshooting.

Thanks, Chris for that info. Has anyone else on your team or learners seen similar behavior? Is this only when using a scrolling panel? What about when scrolling through the menu, or another area of the player?

Also, I'd look at testing this outside of Docebo to see if that's impacting the behavior as well. I often use SCORM Cloud as a testing platform. If you're not able to test there I'm happy to help out if you can share the .story file - and you can always share privately with our Support Team. Similarly, we can test your course in Docebo if you can share a link!

No problem, Ashley. Thank you! Yeah, anyone who tries to scroll within a scroll panel on Firefox has the same problem occurring. And yes, it is only happening within scroll panels as well. I don't know about the player itself though because I have most of the play either hidden or transparent.

I also tested the course with SCORM Cloud and still had the same scrolling problem within Firefox and only in Firefox.

Thanks, Christopher! That's helpful and I see a member of my team has also replicated it. We've shared this with our team as a possible bug, and luckily it seems limited to Firefox and the scrolling panels (no other scrolling areas).

Once a bug is reported, here's how we tackle it. I'll keep you posted here, but this does have a limited impact currently, so I can't say when I'll have an update.

Hi Ashley,

Is there any update on this?

I'm experiencing the same very limited scrolling capabilities in a scrolling panel within Firefox. Additionally, when using Chrome, the user needs to click (or scroll twice with the mouse wheel) within the scrolling panel before being able to scroll, which had not been the case until very recently. Using Edge showed no problems. I'm using the most recent updates in all browsers.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks

So sorry you're facing these issues with the scrolling panel, Michael. I'm happy to share more insight on both:

  1. For the scrolling speed in Firefox: No ETA on a solution as of yet.
  2. For the behavior you're seeing in Chrome: We have an open issue where the mouse scroll does not work on the first attempt and does on the second try.

While I'm not finding any workarounds at this time, I'll add your voice to both reports so we can update this discussion on any new developments. Here's an inside look at how we tackle bugs!

Thanks for reaching out and if there's anything else I can do to help, I'll be here!

Hi Michael!

I'm happy to return to this discussion with an update—we've fixed issue #2 Katie mentions where the:

  • Mouse scroll does not work on the first attempt and does on the second try.

Be sure to install the latest Storyline 360 update (Build 3.50.24668.0) to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes.

If this happens again, please let us know! Or you can work directly with our support engineers here.
