Setting the initial state of an object (on all slides) for the entire project with one variable or code.

Mar 10, 2023

I am working on creating a template for my team of IDs, and I want to give them the option to choose the facilitator for the lesson from a design perspective and not the learner.

Is there a way to set a command to update all the slides (the entire project) with the chosen facilitator?

I want the ID to be able to set all "initial state facilitator" on all slides to "the chosen name" of the four options.

Also, I want the facilitator to show as the chosen state on all slides in story view and slide view, not just when being previewed (when the timeline starts on this slide).

Thanks for your help and time. I have included the file.

If you mean with 'from a design perspective' as in the Storyline file when working in Storyline... well  not in the way you designed/developed the course now. As all the facilitators are in states...the black silhouette will always show in the story view.

I really dont think what you want is needed actually...as it works fine...in preview and published mode.... thats good...aint it ?

But if you really ( i can't think of a reason, but hey...who am i ;-) ) want the facilitator always visible in story view too, you can design 4 scenes in Storyline adding the proper facilitator to the appropriate scene and then instead of changing states on start of a slide you jump to 1 of the 4 scenes.

But as said i donot think thats practical, also from the perspective of maintenance. 1 small change then needs to be done in 4 scenes... so quadrulating ( if thats correct English ) your workload.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback.

The way it is designed now is more for a learner to choose their guide. I wanted to give the designers the opportunity to change their character when building their lessons but still using our template.

I was hoping there was a way to make a single selection or command on one slide that would tell all other slides to set the initial state of the character object on each slide (that has a character) to the character name they want as their guide.

This example is only a handful of slides to show as an example.

The actual storyline file the IDs are using to start all wbt lessons is set up as the complete layout of a lesson and several optional content slides (over 220 slides).  It's done this way to help with rapid design and only needs to update content/text with the layout/visuals already done.

I was hoping there would be a way to make one selection, and all the slides in the template would show the chosen character (state) on each slide in slide view allowing the ID could see it as they build.
