Show Completion Slide
Sep 17, 2019
Hi eLearning Heroes. I stopped using Storyline some time ago, but was recently asked to create a module that shows a completion slide when the user has viewed all of the slides in 1 of 2 paths (USA and UK). There are quizzes associated with each scene, but they are not required to get all of them right in order to move on.
Long story short... if anyone can help me figure out how to show the "completion" slide when they have completed all slides/quizzes associated with 1 of the 2 paths that would be fantastic. I'm at a loss because I can't say show the completion slide if all quizzes are completed because one path is slightly different than the other. This is due back to the client tomorrow morning so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!!!!

Hi Christopher!
I'd say you can accomplish this with variables. Two separate number variables (one for each path) that increase by one each time they finish a slide. Have the proper completion slide appear once the specific variable number for each path is reached.
Christopher,
What are you basing completion on? Results slide, number of slides completed?
If completing the quizzes is not required, I'd be tempted to build a completion slide for each path. Add a complete course trigger to each completion slide, and set your course to complete on trigger.

Thanks for the reply. I say they are one path, but that isn't entirely true. Depending on if you click USA or UK will determine your "path", but what it's actually doing to attaching logic to the button they hit when returning from the video/quiz scene (I.e it brings them back to the landing page of the country the selected earlier). Both countries actually view the same videos/quizzes except for 1-2 different scenes (some are omitted from the UK).
With that said, I don't think I can take this route :(
I can try to use variable changes (I'm somewhat new to those), but I would need to create variable changes that also look at it they selected a button earlier. The UK "path" has two fewer videos/quizzes they have to view than the USA, but the majority of paths/scenes are shared.
I'm going to give it a try, but any pointers you can provide would be helpful. This is so confusing! lol
Hey Christopher.
I think having two separate variables may work for you. Here's an example:
Variable 1 called USA. The slides on the USA path have triggers that raise the number in the USA variable. Say that path has 5 slides they must finish. Once the USA variable hits 5, a trigger tied to that USA variable hits and they see the completion slide specific to that path.
Variable 2 called UK. Same as above: The slides on the UK path have triggers that raise the number in the UK variable. Say that path has 3 slides they must finish. Once the UK variable hits 3, a trigger tied to that UK variable hits and they see the completion slide specific to that path.
You'd only add the triggers that raise the variable number on the specific slides for each path, so they'd see the specific ending you want them to.
Here are a couple of helpful articles about variables and triggers:

Christopher, what are you basing your completion on? Number of slides viewed or a results slide? You said completing the quizzes aren't required, but are you still sending any quiz data to a LMS that the user does complete?
Right now it's off of total slides viewed, but I know that will not work because the UK version has less required slides to view. For this reason, if I said the min # of slides was based off of the UK version then the USA would be marked as complete when they haven't actually viewed all slides. So # slides won't work. Make sense?
Hi Christopher
can you use the Course Completion Trigger? See this KB Article
You'd just need to set a completion criteria to trigger once they view the respective completion slides.
You'd put a completion trigger on the UK ending slide, and another one on the USA ending slide. That way it'll show complete once they have completed either of the two paths.
Great minds think alike, Wendy!
Snap....as we say down under!
Well then: Snap, Wendy! (did I say it in the right context?)
Ha ha -yes you did. We say it when two people say the same thing at the same time.
Y'all say it better than me, because the course completion trigger was my suggestion in my first post, but I obviously could have been clearer with the intent, lol
Snap, Brian!

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for your help. The problem I'm still running into is how to make the completion page appear. There re 12 scenes that are shared between the UK and the USA (the UK views two less scenes than the US). So I guess I need to figure out how to make the completion page appear if they complete all 12 scenes for the USA and after 10 scenes for the UK (excluding the 3 initial landing pages). I know this is confusing. If someone could download and take a quick look I would give you all the snaps in the world. (these are high five snaps in this case :)
Hi Christopher
I'm quoting from Holley's post above
You'd put a completion trigger on the UK ending slide, and another one on the USA ending slide. That way it'll show complete once they have completed either of the two paths - does that not work for you?
Sorry to be so difficult. If they were two straight paths then yet that would work, bu they are shared paths. So I guess the key is how do I get the completion screen to show after the correct scenes/quizzes are completed to show for the UK and the same for the USA (which would then trigger the completion record @ this scene).
Sorry again if I'm just missing something obvious.
Sorry Christopher maybe it's me missing something obvious - is the file at the first post the source file to be downloaded or is there a later version?
For sure. Thanks!

Hi Chris
that zip only has images and a pdf there is no storyline source file the one with the .story extension
So they're not "straight" paths... When you say they're not straight, I'm assuming (dangerous) that there are some decision points that would allow a participant to jump out/complete a scene sooner, while other decisions would require them to complete it after additional slides?
Sorry. Was burning the midnight oil. Brain wasn't on top of things. Give this one a try.
